Although we are only a little more than half-way through this series, it is obvious to me that the Khitans are not going to get ANY land from the Tang regime and that they are destined to stay a nomadic people.
Like other unfortunate peoples they have been used by the Tang to do their dirty work and suffer the consequences.
I'm often drawn into watching the Khan in many of the episodes. The actor creates a memorable character of a tribal leader who is walking a tight rope between two kingdoms.
Does anyone know more about this particular Khan? I know that Khan is a title, like King, but I cannot remember if his full name is shown on the sub-titles. Can any of our Korean members enlighten me?

his name is Lee Jin Choong. Well, thats how yoou say his name in Korean.
and as far as i know, he was not a khan.
He was the leader of the Khitans, but I don't think he was called as 'Khan'.
I don't think he will be given any land from the Tang in this drama either, however, they did get Yingzhou(or in Korean, Young-ju) in real history.
But for some reason that I cannot remember, they rebel against the Tang with DJS, DJY, and Gulsa. This is how it goes in real history, I am not sure if this is how this is going to go in the drama.
and actually, this drama is not EVEN half-way through the series, because the last episode of the drama is not going to be the 100th episode.
KBS recently announced that they are extending the amount of episodes, and it will now end at episode 130 or so.

My family is really enjoying this series--we love gathering together to watch the program. If he's not a Khan, what other title would be used for such a leader?

Interesting info, Truth, and thanks. We are all so glad that you are now a member! So in history the Khitans actually do get their precious Yingzhou? It sure doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon in the drama. I hope that the Khitans DO rebel and go with DJY, myself. However, I doubt they'll show it as such in this series. The writers probably want to keep playing up with the whole love-triangle thing with Chulin, Kaigu, and DJY. But then there is a marriage coming up... And BD...maybe they can just call the Khan "Payyy-yaa!" (Your Majesty)! ;D

So DJY made it quite clear, in the hit list, that the Khan is going to get his. He didn't seem that disturbed, however...

Note how the Khan was not at all willing to send Li Kaigu back down to the Protectorate to pull Sa Bugu's chestnuts out of the fire! They're glad to be out of there on their "new" land and want to build a home of their own.
And why do I think that Xue spoke for the King in granting the Khitan the land on his own authority rather than the King's? DID the King of Tang give the Khitans that land or not?
