So Gulsabiwu decides to save Chulin and ends up being caught and jailed. Thanks to Chulin's maid (I hope she isn't killed off) he escapes and gets as far as the gate. Ever the gentleman, he puts Chulin on the horse and singlehandedly holds off Xue's men. The fight sequence was unbelievable. Biwu was a mad-man! He was magnificent. I'm so glad that #2 Weasal Sa Buggooo didn't get to kill him. I was really hoping to see Gulsabiwu take that character out. My whole family was yelling at the tv, "Kill him! Kill him!" We normally don't do that stuff but the scene was so powerful it just drew us all in! So Xue decides to hire Biwu for himself! He knows how to scout talent, that's for sure. Something tells me that there will be an interesting twist to the storyline with Gulsabiwu. Will he fight for Xue? If he believes that DJY has passed away and that everyone else is dead he just may do it.

I think Gulsabiwu is too noble a man to just write his entire life off to the likes of Xue Rengui. The worst he'll do is probably feign allegiance to the Tang. But, once he learns that DJY is alive, and he will, he might play a more important role than he's been given!

Gulsabiwu has been a wonderful "sidekick" and friend to DJY; I was urging him on during his entire fight against the Tang soldiers (and FeatherDuster watching from the sidelines, honestly ...) 'Biwu, along with Mojam and DJY, has a favorite character of mine. Remember when he begged Xui Rengui to kill him, so he could be with DJY in death? Well, when "FeatherDuster" refused, I was worried that perhaps Gulsabiwu would, at first chance, attempt to commit suicide in order to be with DJY again.

Forgive me for sounding grouchy about this, but this whole plotline is unbelievably stupid. For the past 25 episodes Gulsabiwu has been the voice of reason, trying to keep DJY from going bonkers over Chulin and cautioning him about the risks. Then #49 comes along and all of a sudden it's Gee, we never hit it off too well so I'm going to go into enemy HQ single-handedly and rescue her. What?! Where did that come from? This is not the same character. Did he fall and hit his head somewhere? Of all of the characters in the series he'd be about the last one I'd expect to do something so reckless with so little chance of success without a much, much better reason.
When we're asked to be faithful to these shows for so many episodes, it seems to me that the writers at least have the obligation to show some consistency and not just go off in whatever direction is most convenient at the moment. Maybe this kind of thing doesn't bother most people, but it sure bugged the heck out of me. There are any number of much, much better ways that G's current predicament could have been set up. One of the low points of the first 50 episodes, in my opinion.
And the Khitans standing there watching G slaughter a dozen of them and not just putting some arrows through him and going right after Chulin? Well, it made for an exciting scene certainly, but still....
Okay, okay, enough grousing.
