:'(This was nearly impossible to watch! We were all at the edge of our seats! The carnage was unbelievable and the way the Twerp Betrayer had everyone murdered was beyond belief. If Gom had him killed when he went in to see him the first time, the Twerp wouldn't have had the time to alert the Shilla soldiers. Why he had to show mercy on that kid is beyond me. And weren't the Shilla warriors ready to rumble. It was payback time for the death of their general at the hands of DJY. A grusome scene. But it seems that the young "king" lost track of everyone that needed to be killed. The man who was the "blind" spy has lived to tell the tale. I'm going to miss the character of Gom. He didn't get the air time that I thought he deserved, nevertheless his performance was memorable.

I coudn't stop crying during the whole killing spree. I get so emotional at times like those. Gom was a such a man of honor that although he wanted to kill the man that betrayed his people, he couldn't ignore a man's plea for life either. Little did he know that the pathetic excuse for a king he brought to the throne would betray him once more by striking the sword on his own teacher. Gom's friend was watching what happened in secret, so I hope that he finds DJY or at least lets someone know what went down at Han Fort before the stupid King has a chance to escape punishment for his actions against the Supreme Commander Gom.

Why couldn't the young schmuck just leave? What was the justification for his assassination of Gom? Just that he knew what a weak creep the future king had been? It was a despicable act. I hope that young betrayer chokes on his rice.

this is like one of the only real historical part in the drama. only except that Gom was not King Anseung's teacher.
and unfortunately ginnycat5, King Anseung lives in Shilla as a governor of small province for rest of his life. he also receives a new surname 'Kim', the family name of Shilla's royal blood, instead of his birth surname 'Go', the family name of Goguryeo's royal blood.

Gom Mojam was one of my favorite characters. Ever since he was helping DJY in the beginning (when DJY was YG's servant), I have always liked his character. I know that, like Truth has stated before, he was actually much older than he was portrayed in the series, but I still thought he was wonderful. Like you Bae, I was in tears as I watched him and all those old warriors getting killed like that. It was very hard for me to watch...there was just so much carnage it was unbelievable. Who ever thouht that the timid, little boy on the throne would become a mass-murderer?

I'm probably the only one who feels this way but I couldn't take these scenes seriously due to some of the facial expressions. When they're sitting around discussing the death of all the soldiers and the whereabouts of DJY, Yi Ki Wu has this "I smell something funky" look on his face. Then they show GMJ and apparently he smelled it too. Then they show Anseung and he's pacing around like he hopes they don't figure out who provided the stench (must have been him). There's nothing funny about the GMJ's death or the death of the other soldiers but other stuff was hard to take seriously.

That's what I'd like to know. How could such a young man even know the consequences of his actions? Or maybe he's just like to delude himself some more thinking that if he's King, it certainly means he's immune to punishment. Not With DJY around! he also receives a new surname 'Kim', the family name of Shilla's royal blood, instead of his birth surname 'Go', the family name of Goguryeo's royal blood. So, does this mean that modern-day "Kim's" and "Go's" ancestry can be traced back to Shilla and Goguryeo respectively?

i read that Gom was killed at some point before DJY created Balhae, due to Prince Anseung...but i was surprised how it went down.
i liked the character very much myself, and thought he was a great Supreme Commander, and definitely made this tragedy have a strong impact.
his giving mercy i think is in line with his character (a similar attidtude with a young Dae Jo Young, but with good results)
i think it's interesting how that keeps happening in Korea's history -- good people get stabbed in the back (or the front, or all over the sides, in some cases in ep. 50) , because the leader gets too scared , and stops thinking about the people but rather his own security.

I keep thinking of Kyung Dae sung (?) in Age of Warriors, with his attempts to make things better for the people. The rulers didn't help or reform themselves, they just attacked him and his motives, for fear that he would have too much of the people's affections. So hard to watch him being beaten down and misunderstood.
