I've been looking online for some information on Yang Manchun.......why isn't there that much info about him. There might be two or three paragraphs and they are all the same on every website. From watching this episode it seems like he did a lot for his country. He even killed a king with an arrow...i think he deserves his own show like dae joyoung and yeon gaesumon

The name might have a different spelling. i had that problem when i first started watching Korean dramas...Chang Nok Soo was listed as Jang Nok Su, or something like that.

It is isn't really incorrect spelling, just different ways of Romanizing the hangul spelling. Like Yi, Lee, or Ee - all the same name. Busan = Pusan. There's a thread about this in the Generals board. Sometime I'll learn what's the difference between ch and ch' .

Sometime I'll learn what's the difference between ch and ch' . That's because there's not much known about Yang Manchun even in Korean history book. Yang Manchun makes an appearance only once in The Chronicles of Three Kingdom by Kim Bushik. The part about him says he had defeated the Tang army in Ansi fortress and his arrow hit Li Shimin's eye.

Thanks for that link but that was the only source i was able to find before. I read that many of times but they really don't explain to much in there. They don't even mention how he died. If you can find that korean site that would be great

I've found Korean lin: www.koreandb.net/General/person/p121_07019.htmEven above site mentioned that his death is unknow. This is because most of Koguryeo's history records and relics are stolen by Chinese & Japanese. All Koguryeo's armours & weapons and including many important relics were believed to stolen by Japanese during Japanese rule in Korea. More interestingly, Chinese Government is keeping all Koguryeo's history documents and relics as top secrets as they are trying to make Koguryeo's heritage as Chinese. Even Japanese Katana (sword - Nippon-do) and Samurai origins are from Koguryeo. Even their Sumo wrestling are directly from ancient Korean wrestling match. The word "Sumo" came from Sumo Mohe (meaning powerful Mohe or mighty Mohe). Mohe is tribe from ancient Korea (AKA Malgal tribes).

Thats crazy that his death is still unknown.....well i hope he didn't die how he did in the show. After watching that makes me want to go back in time and kill bu kiwon. If goguryeo survived in the wars against tang do you guys think that goguryeo would still be here today or do you think that after a matter of time china would have still took it over

About Yang Manchun's death.
There are numerous theories how General Yang died.
1. He died of natural cause - many Koguryeo's generals died of heart attack or high blood pressure (this is likely case for YGSM as well). Koguryeo people had high protein or meat diet (most ex-koguryeo people were nomads - I guess they had similar like mongolian diet), Or old age or even fataly wunded during war.
2. Died during Tang-Koguryeo war (some historic documents he died during the battle when Ansi fortress fell.
Some historic evidence shows he fough bravely to last man during the castle seige.
3. He was assinated by Tang's spy or Anti-war Koguryeo's Government officials (like the Dae Jo-Yong's TV series).
No.3 event is highly unlikely, but TV series portrate this as possibility as Yoen Nam-sang was working for Tang during his death.

Thats for the three theories. I hope theory number 2 was correct because from watching the drama it looked like the people really loved him. Even though the drama could have made it look like that but he was one of the pillars of goguryeo so i'm sure he meant a lot to the country

I really felt sad when the character was killed. Says something about the need every nation has for a true hero, even a semi historical one

If goguryeo survived in the wars against tang do you guys think that goguryeo would still be here today or do you think that after a matter of time china would have still took it over actually Koguryo survived until Yi's Choson Dynasty came along. Dae Jo Young proclamied that Balhae, a.k.a The Great Jin, is continuing Koguryo's heritage and when it sent diplomatic documents to Japan, the Emperor of Balhae referred himself as the Emperor of Koryo(although you all know Wang Guhn as the 1st Emperor of Koryo, Koguryo and Balhae also called themselves as Koryo as well). After Balhae's demise, Wang Guhn came along and founded the Koryo Empire, which also proclaimed to continue the Koguryo line. It was also until Wang's Koryo that the Koreans viewed the Chinese as barbarians and an enemy. When Yi's Chosun dynasty(which is known as the weakest Monarchy in Korean history)came along, Chosun Korea made an alliance with the Chinese, breaking the 4500 years tradition of Korean-Chinese rivalry.

and who knows? even if the orginal Koguryo(not Balhae or Koryo) survived more than Tang did, it might have got taken over by the Mongols like Koryo, and the Yi dynasty might have still came along to make a weak Korea(lol)
