I thought that this show was really going places. Like I thought that they would definitely display DJY's heroism by now. Instead, he just looks like a boy with a crush used often as a mediator and rarely is any important scenes. When someone here called him an extra, they were absolutely right! I can't imagine what exactly is the purpose of so much Chu-lin when she apparently never even existed to begin with. I wish that the show finds some real purpose soon or I'm going to be forced to stop watching. Much like what I've done with PIH and HJI.

But didn't DJY have an illegitimate son with her? For real, I mean?

So the relationship between DJY and Chulin was real?

But didn't DJY have an illegitimate son with her? For real, I mean? I've read both sides. That one, the character never existed. Two, that she did and that they did have a son together. I don't honestly know anymore what to believe. I'm trying to go by the show, but it's boring me so I've stopped watching until someone on here might mention something interesting or what not. I went with "apparently she's not real" because that's what I'm hoping is the version of the truth. I don't like this character, real or not.

On the was-she-real-or-not question, maybe one of our Asian history experts can bail us out, or someone who reads Korean and has time to do some thorough Internet research. (Please?) I’ve tried to find the answer on English sites but no luck. It would be great to get a more solid answer either way, because if there were such a person and if she fathered a child by DJY it would at least explain why the character was included in the series and why they're making goo-goo eyes at each other.
About the lack of DJY-centered content and the dialogue scenes....Remember that we’re still not even one-third of the way through the series, and that DJY at this point is still a young guy and a lowly captain. And isn’t like IYSS where volumes of interesting historical material have survived and we have so much detail about the main character’s life. So if they’re going to fill 100 episodes, they basically have two choices: either come up with lots of fictional storylines to keep DJY front and center at all times, or make the show broader and cover more events involving other characters. Obviously not everyone agrees on this, but I much prefer the latter—particularly to the extent that it portrays the political and factional tensions that brought down the kingdom (which, of course, lays the groundwork for DJY’s achievements in the aftermath).
One of the reasons that the Chulin angle is getting so much play is to keep a young DJY more visible in the early episodes of the series. Obviously that isn’t working. And there was a string of episodes, around the early teens, when every time DJY stepped out of doors, within five seconds somebody was pointing a sword or knife at him. The guy was attracting so much metal, it was like he was magnetized. Lots of DJY content but it became a little silly. So if the young DJY retreats into the background now and then, I don’t mind, particularly with the good storylines involving people like YGSM and Yang Manchun. But that’s just my side of it, of course. We'll be able to judge better after episode 50 or 60.
Maybe putting the title “Dae Joyoung” on all 100 episodes was misleading, as opposed to splitting the first half into “The Fall of Goguryeo” or something like that. Anyway, the Tang army is coming so the action side will be picking up soon.
Just keep Chulin in jail for as long as possible!

I'm no history buff so I don't know if Chulin's character is based on a real historical figure. But I was in Korea for a short while and saw up a couple of shows (to episodes 44) so people. Without spoiling things, I'd just say do bear with DJY's infatuation with Chulin. She really stands by her man! Any warrior would be proud and happy to have her fighting by his side! A professor who set next to me on the plane said that the real blame for the fall of Goguryeo should go to Yeon Gaesomun.

I really don't like the fact that Dae JoYoung is in love with Chulin. I mean, how long did he know her before they started liking each other? Not even a day? I agree with Gulbasiwu (I'm almost sure I'm spelling his name wrong), she is only going to get in the way. He is putting her in front of his loyalty to his country. He knows that she was one of the assassins that planned to kill Yeon Geosumun, yet he still lets her live. Seriously. Also, in a previous episode, Chulin told DJY that one day she would kill him...isn't that enough?

She might be made up to make the story line last longer. This is suppose to be a 100 episode show so they might have added a little relationship drama so the female audience gets attached to it.

Oh, without a doubt. I'm sure KBS has meddling executives just like the American networks do, and I'm sure they looked at the demographics for other historical military dramas and said We need to get more of a female presence and more romance written into this one and try to bump up the 18-49 female demo (or whatever the Korean equivalent is).

You are SO funny bowflex... but you know what? I'm so totally annoyed by Chulin .. I mean, how does she fit in with all the fightingMen? At one point she has this gaping bloddy gash near her neck... and then a little while later she's dressed in her pristine outfit with a white collar. I'm less charmed by Dajoyoung as he continues to think about her.

I agree with you completely.......thats why i was happy when she was fighting gulsabiwu and she fell down that hill "i was like yes she's dead" I don't think that she will be on the show any longer. I give it 10 more episodes max for her and she will either be gone or Dae Joyoung just wont talk to her anymore.

Lol; the same thought had crossed my mind when I saw that episode, bowflex...I admit I was kinda annoyed when Chulin came alive. The feelings that she and Joyoung had for one another was cute for awhile, but now it's just way too much. Somehow though, I don't think that we have seen the last of Chulin. The whole love situation is ridiculous as it is but I have the feeling that there is more to come. With the way it has just been going on and on, I doubt that it is over yet. I'm sure that if not now, but later in the series, Chulin is going to pop up out of nowhere and the whole thing will continue where it left off .

ya, but from watching the last episode its looks like joyoung is starting to have feelings for the kings niece. We all know that she likes him and we all know or i at least know who joyoung marries. But i do agree she might always be popping up out of no where for some more drama to start

Why would he need her advice or views when his matter so little?
