Yaaay! This drama takes over from "Mr Goodbye" starting November 13. It airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 pm, and reruns Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 1:30.
THESE TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE! Until they clarify, you should set your VCRs at least 15 minutes before and after.
I'll transfer any discussion threads I can find over to this board as I find them. I know people have been posting info.

I did that. Everyone, if you see a thread that belongs on this board, just let me know here.
Level (or anyone), do you know how many episodes are on this series? Even if you've posted it elsewhere, post it here, please.

Oh clap. I would have missed this if Alexa didn't let me know. Sorry I've been absent. Hopefully things will change and I can get in here more often.

Is this true to Korean history? How does one determine who are the good guys or the bad guys? I'll watch for a while, but right now, I am totally lost.

AAARGH. I can't believe it. I got distracted by your avatar, level (hello Mr Kim!), and clicked it to try to see it better, and when I closed it, I lost an ENTIRE POST. I hate when I do that. LOL.
Anyway; teacher, I know what you are talking about. On top of being unfamiliar with Korean history, the costuming contributes to that feeling that you don't know who is who, because of course it's all uniforms. Not only the soldiers, but civilians are wearing uniforms to tell their class to each other. Also, men have beards that further obscure their faces, and women have those uniform wigs. But my experience has been that once I've watched 6 or 7 episodes, and get more of a feeling for who the people are (I had some clever bits here but I've forgotten them now LOL), there is nothing more absorbing or rewarding as an historical drama. And as we go along, people post a lot of information about how well it relates to true Korean history, so you get an education as well. And we both know how rewarding that is.
Give it a few more episodes, there's a lot of information being fed to you quickly, but I think it'll all sort out.

Is this true to Korean history? How does one determine who are the good guys or the bad guys? I'll watch for a while, but right now, I am totally lost. It looks to me like the defenders are the good guys and the attackers (at least for now) are the bad guys. The Chinese are trying to expand and conquer Korea. Except that there are political borders and names of countries that are different from those in use today. Those I haven't learned yet. Unless you were asking about telling them apart by their uniforms? I just know that Lee Duk Hwa is the one with red and yellow yarn braided into his hair. I'm so happy to see him - he looks mischievous in this show. He was on the Chinese side and deserted to save his life.

Nooooooo! Lee Duk Hwa switched sides again. I liked cheering him on.

Looks like he'll stay evil though. Gotta hand it to his character though, became a general overnight because of a flashy outfit, not to mention skill on the battlefield. I'd like to seem him evil though. The only shows I've watched with him in it are MPC and That/This thing called life, and he played/plays a relatively good guy in both.

- One more DJY related thread- Long time ago, our dear Choko posted a historical background info and about DJY in this thread. - The Drama starts in 645, depicting the first war between Koguryo and Tang. If you search on web about Koguryo kingdom, you'll find lots of infos.

Thanks florel! ;D That helps a lot. I was actually trying to figure out what the Tangs and the other guys were fighting about.
