I wonder if the writers do read boards and forums...Definitely much better spins for a closured ending. Well, I have heard that they deliberate leak potential plot developments to various Korean fan boards, and then adjust the writing to the response.

My hunch was right...K-drama writers use fan boards as focus groups/idea incubators. For one thing, cancer as a sympathy-garnering dramatic tool is overused. There are other ways to convey sadness and sense of loss; there are other tragic [thus ennobling and not as pathetic] tools.
The overlapping triangles between Uegyong, Yunhu, Sinhyeong and Guhkwa has hints of 'Dawson's Creek' [written by an ensemble of talented writers]. Guhkwa has the same strong moral-inclined character of Joey Potter [played by Katie Holmes/soon-to-be Mrs. Cruise] but sans the Yanbia naivete. Yunhu has shades of Dawson Leery...
Puggu's character is rather Shakespearean, almost straight out of 'Merchants of Venice'. Not sure whether the brothers' name-rhyming is a pun for comedic structure -- Punggu, Sungu, Muggu.

It's common, especially traditionally, for family members of a given generation to share a syllable of their names, in this case, "Gu".
Similarly, U-gyeong and U-suk, and Yun-hu, Yun-jeong, and Yun-ji.

But the names from So this is Love for all the sons: Ki-bum, Joon-bum, and Sang-bum. Imagine going abroad and having those names! Haha...

Fascinating names!
Someone sent me a clip of the Gukhwa character singing. She's quite talented -- she does an elegant arch to an uptempo. She's pretty and has a great voice [turns out she also sang the drama's theme song]. If she can do Yanbian dialect, she could learn English and get a Hollywood agent [trade all the provincial outfits for one Vera Wang as well].
Does anyone know what's going to happen to the Sinhyeong character? What's her recourse when the Yunhu/Guhkwa romance takes off? Or so it seems [just saw a clip of episode 90 on Youtube].

I would bet she'll pull some mean stunts to try and break them apart: typical K-drama stuff. I hope they introduce a love interest for her near the end.

Sinhyeong already looks as if she's becoming obsessive over Yunhu already. Read some spoilers for episodes and the things that Sinhyeong and Yunhu's mother do to Gukwa to keep Yunhu away are terrible. But on the plus side the dialogue on upcoming episodes between Yunhu and Gukwa are really sweet. For Sinhyeong's sake, Gukwa will be fighting her feelings for Yunhu so hard. This is gonna be good.

Good thing there wasn't a Ka-boom! LOL... I feel so bad when I think of children having no say in what they're named. They can't change it till they're at an age where everyone alreadys knows them by another name. But Pung-gu. Strange.

i can't help but feel bad for Shin-yeong. If she wants to be mean to anyother girl for sticking by Yun-hu when it should be her, i say she has that right. Yun-hu really needs to get a firm understanding of his feelings as well as hers. He's still taking marriage lightly and it will end up hurting both of them if he keeps being idle. I wish he would break up with her where we're at now in Chi-town. It'll only make Shin-yeong bitter and I don't think that's accurately portraying her character. She's a great person. I just would hate for her to turn into a man-hog.

Just read spoilers up to episode 106 -- Guhkwa and Yunhu are officially dating but Sihnyeong seems to be still in the picture. Perhaps the writers should indeed come up with a new love interest for her, or at least a noble speech [about loving Yunhu so much she'd give him up...]. Hard to see such a rational/heroic character turn into a mean/fatal-attraction type.
The drama is confirmed to be up to 168...Wondering if Gukhwa will ever attend college/go for higher education -- top student that she was in Yanbian, as well as in keeping with her spirited and independent character, and in view of her romance with a well-educated man. In real life and in modern times, the Cinderella story doesn't really pan out -- not so much about class disparity but more on compatibility. It is becoming exhausting to watch Gukhwa polish walls and floors -- she needs to be emancipated from manual labor!
