Okay, I was away but learned here that the Christmas weekend episodes were messed up. But I didn't see anything of "Seoul 1945" over New Year's weekend, either. Did anyone?

Thankfully, I guess it was just some kind of holiday scheduling issue. ;D
As I mentioned elsewhere, my satellite station quit airing “Seoul 1945” at episode #58. So, to my amazement, when I visited my mom back in California over the Christmas holiday, I discovered that “Seoul 1945” was still running in Los Angeles (I’d assumed it had ended weeks earlier). So, I got to see episodes #68 and #69 that weekend. Since the show’s final two episodes were scheduled to run the very next weekend, I begged my mom (who isn’t a K-drama fan) to tape those final two episodes and mail them to me.
Well, the tape arrived today, I just got to see those final two episodes. Let me tell you: though I felt that “Seoul 1945” dragged rather severely early on (condensing it down in the early going would have really strengthened the series overall, I think) the last half of “Seoul 1945” was about as good as television gets. I found this to be a really memorable drama series - probably my favorite K-drama of 2006 - and I’ll seriously miss it.
Really, I still can’t believe that there’s so little interest this drama has here on the Chicago board.

I haven't missed an episode of Seoul 1945 and don't intend to. I also have 2 friends in my neighborhood who have faithfully watched it. They are not members of the board. Having lived during this era, as I have said before, this show put a whole different slant on my remembrance of the history of this time, especially the Communist influence in the country.

I completely missed the last weekend's episodes. During the holiday, I set up my video, but it did not tape for some reasons. Could anyone give me some outline?

Really, I still can’t believe that there’s so little interest this drama has here on the Chicago board. Allow me: I'm an outsider who knows nothing of the history and customs of Korea, so I watch mostly for the aesthetics and storylines. Seoul 1945 continues to be the best drama, K or otherwise, that I've seen in many years. I hate war movies, and the violence (though necessary for the plot) in some episodes is hard to take. However when they concentrate on the characters, fictional or otherwise, I'm drawn in emotionally and feel their pains and frustrations. The latest episodes, 49 and 50 were the most powerful yet. My favorite character in any drama so far is Hae Kyeong, whose presence on screen is riveting. I caught myself feeling emotionally attached to her as they tied her to the post to be shot. I can only hope it's all for dramatic effect and she's somehow spared. Otherwise I don't know how much longer I can continue watching, she's that important to the show. I also appreciate how well done this "movie" is technically. Beautifully produced and pleasing to the eyes and ears despite the subject at hand. The characters are sympathetic and well developed. The cast, from the child actors on, have been superb. The 2 hour format and lack of repeats also make it unique over the other dramas I've seen. While I do like many of the other shows, most notably Dae Jo Yeoung, even as great as it is, it still feels more like a TV comic book in comparison to Seoul 1945. Frankly I don't understand why there isn't more interest on the boards either.

I haven't been watching this one but caught it this past weekend. Now I wish I had started from the beginning.

I haven't been watching this one but caught it this past weekend. Now I wish I had started from the beginning. oh , dear Chigirl68.... I'm sorry you haven't been watching. I'm watching every KoreanDrama that's on in the evenings... Seoul 1945 is really my favorite. Beginning in 1933 with the Japanese occupation... seeing the main characters play their child roles... and seeing them intereact as they grew older... it's just outstanding. ... and then in 1945 when the Japanese experienced a great fall ... and the Americans and real historical characters were introduced. I bought the 72-episode series on Ebay. and I know that at some time I will watch it again. The subtitles are ok (this is a Chinese set so the names are different, but the filming is perfect) I digress... it's about half over so you'll still get a lot out of what remains. I know that several comments were made about the violence... but war is not a Walt Disney concept ... there's just the right balance between history/war/romance. Beaitufully fillmed and the music is my favorite ... even over Winter Sonata. Also, changing the time to 7:00-something to 9:00-something is better than 9:00-10:30. ok, I'm done.

Episode 120?? Oh, my, I don't know if I can last that long... such a long commitment. But anyway, yes, Candyapple, it's back on schedule now. We had some glitches around the holidays and I got confused. We are at episode 51, I believe.

I haven't the slightest idea where the "120 episode" idea comes from, as I'm quite sure that "Seoul 1945" is only 71 episodes total.
That 120 episode drama must be a different show! ;D
