Instead of talking about what happened, she tells him that she wants to expand their restaurant with their rental deposit, and she wants for them to live at her parents’ home until they are financially well off. (BTW, for those of you interested in renting system in Korea--they have the usual monthly rent system as in the U.S., however, there is another type of rent system where the tenant pays a large upfront money to move in, and this money is returned to the tenant when they move out. Basically, the rental is using the money to earn interest from the bank and/or investment.)

EPISODE #56 • The Father says to Seor-chil that he feels it’s the right to do as it’s written in the letter. Seor-chil tells her father she needs more time to think about it. After she leaves, the Father takes out a bank account book from the envelope the letter came in.
• The entire family including Sun-taek, and Il-han (minus Theng-chil) gather together to celebrate the holiday, Chu-soek, a Korean Thanksgiving. Doek-chil takes this opportunity to ask her parents their permission to allow her new family to live with them. The Mother seems to favor the idea since it means Sun-taek’s ex can’t get in the way of Doek-chil.

Seor-chil also asks her parents to return the money sent by her birth mother—in the letter, the money was for Seor-chil to use for her wedding to the officer. The birth mother knew about her dead husband’s last wish for Seor-chil to marry into the navy officer’s family.
• Seor-chil apologizes to her mother about not telling her of her relationship with Ha-num. She asks her to meet Ha-num for she is sure that she’ll like him even though he’s younger and still a student, and not coming from a financially dependable family. The Mother refuses to meet him on the ground that Ha-num should be at least as good as the navy officer—financially speaking. (I have a feeling that Ha-num’s deception to Seor-chil about his poor family will somehow play a big role in their relationship in the future. Lying is never good.)
• Seor-chil meets with her birth mother and asks her to not get involved in her life.
• Sun-taek’s older daughter, Sora, tells her mother about her moving into Doek-chil’s parents’ home. The ex is not happy about the news, but she can’t do anything about it. When Sora doesn’t show up at home, Sun-taek and Doek-chil is very worried about her whereabouts. Doek-chil discovers her in the alley and tries to reassure her when Sora runs away from Doek-chil. Sora runs into the street without seeing the approaching truck. Doek-chil runs after her trying to save her from getting struck and screams…

As Ha-num was about to tell her the truth about his well to do family, Seor-chil tells him that if he came from money, she probably wouldn’t have dated him. He can’t bring himself to say anything more.
• Ha-num’s mother shows up at his place after tending to her business in Seoul and asks him to introduce Seor-chil to her. Ha-num calls Seor-chil and sets up a meeting for her to meet his mother. (BTW, Ha-num’s stepmother is not Seor-chil’s birth mother. Whew.)
• Seor-chil’s birth mother tells of her meeting with Seor-chil to her parents and tells them to allow Seor-chil to marry whomever she wants to marry. (According to the birth mother, she was told of the situation by Seor-chil when they last met.) The birth mother begs Seor-chil’s father to allow her to see Seor-chil getting married before she’s still able to—(oh, no, I guess she has a terminal illness. )
• Seor-chil is introduced by Ha-num to his mother. Ha-num’s mother seems satisfied with Seor-chil even if Seor-chil is a soldier and also older than Ha-num. EPISODE #58 • Seor-chil is flabbergasted to hear Ha-num’s mother telling her that she can’t marry Ha-num for the fact that she’s older than Ha-num and also that she’s a career soldier. Seor-chil is again surprised when she is told that Ha-num’s two older brothers are doctors and his father also is a renowned doctor. His mother tells her to let go of Ha-num for he is too young to settle down and for his future endeavors. Seor-chil can’t no longer hold back her tears and says goodbye as Ha-num’s mother begs her to not tell Ha-num of their meeting.

• Seor-chil is no longer taking his phone calls so Ha-num goes to the army base to see Seor-chil. He asks what happened to the promise she made about her standing by him as long as he loved her. He tells her that he can’t understand what she’s doing when her parents and his mother all agreed to their relationship. He says he can’t end their relationship. She tells him he’s being foolish and runs away from him with tears flowing.
• The Father is concerned as he remembers what Seor-chil’s birth mother said about her hoping to see Seor-chil getting married before it’s too late for her. He tells Seor-chil to plan on getting married before the year’s end. Seor-chil makes excuses about Ha-num’s parents being ill and his brother getting married not too long ago, but her father tells her to ask Ha-num to see him to discuss their wedding.
• Doek-chil’s mother tells Sun-taek to teach some manners to Sora about how she’s calling Doek-chil as “ah-joom-ma,” which plainly means an older lady instead of calling her “mom.” He also is told of how Sora is mistreating Doek-chil when Doek-chil is putting a great effort to take care of her. Sun-taek scolds Sora when she refuses to call Doek-chil as “mom.”
• Ha-num waits for Seor-chil in the pouring rain and when he sees her, he again asks her how could she abandon him when he feels like his life is coming to an end. As she tries to walk away from him, he decides to lie down in front her and tells her she can leave him if she wants to, but while she’s at it, she should step on and squash him…

The birth mother offers to pay for anything Seor-chil may need for her wedding, and she also confesses that she’s receiving chemotherapy and she wishes to see Seor-chil getting married while she still has a sound mind and body.
• Seor-chil goes to Ha-num’s place to deliver grocery at the request of his friend, but he asks her to stay with Ha-num as he has to go to work. Ha-num is deeply asleep and Seor-chil goes about to take care of him, however, she’s careful to make sure Ha-num doesn’t learn of her being there for him. • Ha-num returns home and discovers Seor-chil’s handkerchief. He grabs onto the hankie and runs out…

• Ha-num confronts his mother and says he’s disappointed in her and tells her he can’t break up with Seor-chil who has saved him when he was in such despair after learning about his mother being a stepmother. He says that Seor-chil is the reason why he decided to accept his stepmother. He tells her to no longer consider him as a son, and leaves after saying he doesn’t want to see her anymore.
• Tae-ja fights with his mother about her getting in the way of his and Theng-chil’s life. He then blames Theng-chil and her pregnancy as the reason for his frustrated life and leaves the house with a packed bag. He ends up going to the countryside with his friends to help the farmers as volunteer workers.
• Theng-chil goes into labor and can’t reach Tae-ja on the phone as he ignores her call. She goes to the hospital with Mi-chil’s help. However, Theng-chil is not in good condition and she needs to have a surgery.

EPISODE #61 • Theng-chil’s mother-in-law comes to the hospital to sign the surgery consent form on behalf of Tae-ja. Coz He was such a hottie in that drama, anygirl would fall in love with him ;D Ok, I guess i'm exagerating a bit but go see for yourself hehe

Today, on that Star magazine entertainment show, they had a segment on Tteng-chil and Tae-ja's mom. It seems Granny was right: Tae-ja's mom falls for Il-han's uncle. Given how I'm so used to seeing her so ornery, it was pretty funny to see her with little hearts floating around her head*. *Well, not literally, but if this show were a comic book . . .
