Thanks Ducky and HappyCamper.
What is that little girl's name with the "wavering" mother?

The little girl's name is Keum-shil. She is so cute! I felt so bad for her when she watched her Mother beating on her half-sister (Kyung-sook). The mother is terrible....I can't believe she hit the little boy, Kyung-min. It doesn't look like he's her biological son. From what I read on Koreanwiz, it looks like Kyung-sook, Kyung-ku, and Kyung-min have the same father as Keum-shil, but different mothers.

Oh, that makes sense. Keum-shil doesn't look like the others exactly. I wonder how old she is, because of something her brother said. She still talks like a baby, but she's apparently much older.

Thanks, Ducky. I meant the character, but this helps since she probably plays someone close to that age group.

If I remember right, they also mention somewhere in the TV drama that she was supposed to be age 7. And yes, she does talk a little like a baby, but I think that's part of her charm.

I think she is adorable with those front teeth missing. It's a wonder she isn't more screwed up, considering how her mother is.

I finally remembered to watch my tape of the first episode last night! I like this one. I agree 100% that the little girl is an exceptional actress. She makes those tears roll without a hint of hamminess. And her silky hair is so cute. When she and her older brother were talking to the father to get him to come in for dinner, she was just so natural. She's the Korean Dakota Fanning! I also think the skinny little brother is very good. He wouldn't have been out of place in "Stand by Me." I know I'll probably catch some flak for this, but the father is kinda handsome, I think. No wonder he got at least 2 different women to marry him and come share his cropshare. He's no Ralph Fiennes, but there's something about him. P.S. Who's the chubby kid? I know he's a school chum, but I thought he was going to be one of the siblings. I guess he develops into a main character.

EDIT: Oh rats, I went back to check and found out that I really flubbed this one. So, I’m starting over!
The extra-chubby kid (whom I think you’re referring to) is named Soon-shik, and he’s friends with the little runt of a school bully named Kyung-min. Soon-shik’s father is named Chang-han, and like Kyung-min’s father, he works in the orchards as a laborer.
Soon-shik’s father will become a major character in the near future, as will Soon-shik himself, further on in the series.

I find myself glued to the television when this show is on. It's a good one. It's very heavy, drama-wise, but the very depiction of these characters is very simplistic. How old is Kyung-sook supposed to be? Because on KWiz, it says that Park Sol-mi will be playing the older "Kyung-sook." It sounds like a long drama, 30 episodes or something.

I think she's supposed to be 14? I was looking at the Korean website for pictures and somewhere I saw that under Kyung-sook's picture was her name in Korean (?) and near it was (14). I'm not sure though.
I'm looking forward to seeing Park Sol-mi. I'm guessing her character will be soft-hearted, a big change from the feisty Oh Cherin from Winter Love Sing.

14? She looks like a grown woman to me, at least 18. Oh, well, I guess they had to cast some actor who was grown up to begin with.

Yeah, I guessed around 18. But then it makes sense for her to be 14. You can't have a face change in just 2-4 years.

It was just disgusting to watch those police officers deal so maliciously with Kyung-sook's dad. But what hurt me the most was that "oppa" Kyung-sook likes. He knows what his father is like, how could he be so blind to what's happening around him?? He knows that his father isn't the most honest being there is, so how could he just believe him like that if he said that the scandal that was reported in the papers is just a ploy to get rid of him in the elections by the opposing candidate. That Keum-shil though. She's just a cutie. I started to immediately cry when she and her brother were begging that cop to let their father go. The Acting in this drama is terrific.. Looking forward to tonight's episode.

You're so right Bae ... that little sweetheart Keum-shil is an outstanding actress. How does such a little one grasp the emotion... the look, the body language, the tone of voice. I just want to meet her! Lovely, lovely little girl. One honestly forgets that they're watching a pretend story. I don't look forward to it when the characters become older... I will really miss that little girl. I cried too ... little brother and sister... weren't they wonderful? I hope after shooting that scene they were engulfed in hugs followed by ice cream
