I’m pretty sure that Choi Jina was the actress who played the Youngie’s former friend (the one who ended up marrying the man who was Youngie’s first love, and with whom Youngie was now having a secret affair).

Ah! I forgot all about her! I only had eyes for Ji Baksa and forgot all about the lover when he came along.  By the way, last night in Korean class we learned that "Baksa" is not the word for a medical doctor but for a Ph.D. A medical doctor is a weh-sa. At least, that's what the teacher said, though my little dictionary says otherwise. |

As I recall, it says doctor: paksa.  It's just a glossary. Sorry. |

One annoying thing about looking up languages with non-Arabic alphabets on line is that they only give you the answer in that language's notation, not in Arabic letters. You know, like the Korean character for "doctor" instead of how you'd say the word.

Okay, I'm back after checking a couple of online dictionaries. And it seems what the teacher said is probably right. I saw baksa/paksa defined as "doctor of laws." But another one said "doctor" is we-sa and put baksa as a secondary or alternate term. So maybe it's not cut-and-dried or uniform across Korea. Maybe Ji Baksa's father was thinking of a medical doctor after all--their whole family were doctors, didn't he say, so the "Ph.D." definition doesn't make as much sense to me.

In Korea,a doctor is a 'we-sa' but addressed as 'Pak-sa'
I went back to watch that epsd,my version had chinese subs .It translates paksa as 'doctor of laws' So JiPaksa and his brothers were all given names of the different university degrees; Bachelor--hak-sa
Master -seok-sa
Doctor --pak-sa
It was a source of confusion because a Paksa can be a medical doctor or a Phd doctor. That was why JiPaksa said among his brothers his is the best name cause he has not got his Phd yet but is called Paksa.His brothers all have their Phds and are also traditional chinese medicine doctors but are called Haksa and Seoksa

Thank you, qwert! That is very helpful! I didn't remember what the names of the other brothers meant, or maybe it was never explained anyway.
It's cute that the parents named their last son with the highest degree, too. How funny. I wonder if Paksa was planning to get a Ph.D. at all.

In one epsd,Youngie called JiPaksa in the middle of the night. He said he was working hard writing his Phd thesis so that he won't disgrace his name.
