This drama is just so sad. Watching Soonie process the doctor's news that she is terminal is heartwrenching to watch. The range of emotions that she portrays is so compelling ......extremes of anger, desperation, grief, depression, emotional and physical pain. On tonight's episode (2/17), it struck me that I was viewing the very acute experience of a young person's struggle to deal with the knowledge that her life may likely soon end. I feel I am personally gaining some empathy for others in this position. I've known people of varying ages who had terminal cancer, but I have never seen this intimate of a view of the horribly difficult time such an ill person and their family suffers.

Also interesting to watch was Soonie's mother-in-law's reaction after Soonie's husband told his mother that Soonie had stomach cancer. M-I-L was flashing back to scenes where she had been especially horrible to Soonie (which was basically all of the time). It was also good, earlier in the episode, for Soonie to hear her husband defending her from the other room, hearing him throw the food all over the kitchen in a rage, screaming at his sister and mother in Soonie's defense and then kicking them out of his house.

I'm so glad he did that! Also that he put their house off-limits to his nasty selfish sister.

i'm kind of shaky about what to feel about the MIL actually. It was a bit too unrealistic. She can't change in just a split second because she finds out SI is dying.

Actually, Bae, it did kinda ring true if you consider the fact that in most Korean dramas the loved ones always think that a person's illness is due to the way they were treated (by the loved ones in question). Remember that scene with Soonie's husband and father? Each seemed to think that he was responsible for Soonie's cancer. Also, I think MIL was probably feeling ashamed, knowing how much she has hated and mistreated Soonie. Her tears could very well have been for herself as well as her sick DIL.

So true. If I were in the MIL's shoes, I know that I would be torn with guilt.
I sure hope they get that SIL wise soon, too.

In most asian culture, they believe in retribution. So when MIL found out that Soonie was dying, she immediately realised all the nasty things she did to her. I guess at that point, many thoughts must have ran thru her mind-- feelings of guilt and regret for mistreating her DIL,the fear of retribution for her evil deeds which caused soonie to contract cancer....The news came as a shock to her. Only when it is too late ,then did she realise how much soonie had sacrificed for her family.

I didn't think of that, HappyCamper. I did notice that she felt guilty. I just hope, like Soju mentioned, that the SIL gets some sense knocked into her.

Kathleen, the headline (I had to put my video on pause to read it) was to the effect that the son-in-law of the Home Shopping Network had become the CEO. Remember a few episodes back when his wife was trying to get him to talk at the dinner table about his taking over the company and he wanted to think about it. I guess even though the wife threw him out, seemingly for good, this implies they got back together again?

Wow, Lucy, you read it in Korean? That's great! You're an inspiration.

No! Maybe after 10 years of community-college Korean class I might. It was in the subtitles. LOL. The subtitle went by so quickly, though, that I had to pause it to read it. I can see why you thought I meant I read the Korean newspaper.
