Okay, an even more literal translation of the title would be "Rose-colored Life" or "Rose-lighted Life" We can all get creative from here and suggest "Rose-shade" or "Rose gradation" - your choice.
Anything but 'War of Roses' - there's even an actual war named after that back in medieval France. (Don't feel like looking back into my textbook right now though).

It occurred to me during tonight's episode, that this discussion may never reach a logical conclusion. When Sungmoon brings Soonie out to look at how he had the owner fix the sign, she makes a comment on how she either dreamed of, or always wanted to her life to turn out like the name on the sign. I'm hoping she's referring to "Rosy Life" and not "War of the Roses".  |

The sign on the cafe IS "War of the Roses" in English--- It's ?>%$#^&%%&%%$ in Korean... Where are you guys seeing the English sign? The sign on the cafe is in Korean and French. Underneath the Korean characters, there are the French words, "La vie en rose," which translates into "Rosy Life." Or, are you guys referring to the English subtitles at the bottom of the screen? |

Ahh, I see. I was getting confused there. I thought TheBo was talking about an actual physical sign above the cafe with English wording on it, but all I saw above the cafe is a sign with Korean and French words.
Since I'm not Korean, I don't know what the Korean wording translates into, but the French wording translates into "Rosy Life," and not "War of the Roses," as the subtitles (and drama title) suggest.

Could be semantics, but I also thought that Bo was saying that the sign was physically written in English. By the way, finejade, you may have ascertained by now that perhaps 95% of the participants here are not Korean. If we were, we wouldn't be able to fill up numerous pages on the translation of a sign or the phone number of a local merchant (look for the thread in "General" entitled What doe this mean to get a real sense of the insanity of which you are now a participant; but it keeps us off the streets. |
