The man who plays the father of Soon-ie etc. is the same man who plays Seo-yeong's father on "Farewell to Sorrow" and was My-ryung's father in "Yellow Hankie" both of whom were really sweet characters. So it's rather shocking to see him like this. Not that it's germane to the story, LOL--I'm just saying...

Bo, since we seem to like some of the same dramas, I really think you're going to like this one. I'm enjoying it (enjoying seems so...brutal considering the storyline) - my husband thinks I'm insane for watching a drama that evokes tears regularly - but it's therapeutic! Anyway, I hope you "enjoy" this one as much as I think you will. (But I would NEVER buy the drama...I'll save my $$ for fairy-tale endings! LOL) Melissa

It's dark and brutal and there is so much ugliness, but the acting is wonderful and nobody seems to flinch from showing these particular characters in their particular lives--honestly. I like it very much. Bo

I wonder if they'll fix the drunken dad with that lady that owns that place right in the middle of a street.

BAE, do you mean the one he was at the police station with in the first episode? She does seem interested in him. I could not figure out why I recognized her--then I realized she was one of the country women in "Wife" and also I must have seen her in some other show. I like her (character AND actor, LOL). He probably is too immersed in his own misery and selfishness (I was soooooooooo mad when he made Soonie cook for him instead of that nice housekeeper) to notice her.

I wonder what on earth she sees in him! He makes me sick. Though, judging from the previews on last Saturday's episode, he seems to finally do a little something for Soonie in the episode coming up. I recognize her, too, but not from "Wife." I think she was in an unsubtitled daily drama that was on KBC last year, though I couldn't tell you which one.

Yeah, Lucy, I thought so, too. It took place in some village out in the boonies? But I thought they eventually subtitled it...

Yeah, I definitely remember the "boonie" feel. It seemed they were always either hanging around some sad little produce stand/soju-and-snack-shop or sitting out in the courtyard with a bunch of plastic kimchi bowls. I wasn't dedicated enough to stick around to see if they eventually subtitled it, though.

Maybe we're all too depressed to want to post a lot. I know I'm not feeling too inspired.

Is it just me, or is there a distinct... echo in this forum... Hello/ hello/ hello/ hello...Anybody there/ there/ there/ there... LOL. Bo LOL... (I logged in BTW, no more mistakes!) I've not posted because I'm up to episode 16 and don't want to spoil it for you on the Chicago board. For example, there was a lot more I wanted to say in my original reply, but felt it would be divulging too much information (TMI). I've seen the lady friend in other dramas as well, but she was more "refined" and not as "vulgar" (she looks like a hooker past her prime to me with that makeup! LOL). I like her cheekiness and spunk, though. :-) Melissa

Maybe we're all too depressed to want to post a lot. I know I'm not feeling too inspired. LOL...true. It's hard to get excited about such a depressing story! I can get riled up about Soonie and her jerk of a husband...Youngie and her two-faced married boyfriend...Soonie's SIL, BIL, MIL are all so irritating. (See, I'm getting riled! LOL) OH! One thing I just don't get...and I saw it when I lived in Korea as well. That is - leaving children unattended in their home! I could NEVER leave my son while he was sleeping (infant), although I was told I should on several occasions! (To go to the corner store about 50 feet from the house...I just couldn't!) Soonie's children just seem so neglected...for lack of a better word. (Oops...was that a spoiler? I really don't think so...I think it was shown in the beginning too, right?) Melissa

Couldn't Soonie ask their grandmother to watch them, or her SIL? You'd think they would reciprocate after all Soonie does for them. Or maybe Soonie is a permanent subordinate/inferior and can't ask a favor?

I don't know. i think she was all like, the younger one is mature enought to take care of the older one and herself.

....OH! One thing I just don't get...and I saw it when I lived in Korea as well. That is - leaving children unattended in their home! I could NEVER leave my son while he was sleeping (infant), although I was told I should on several occasions!.... You're right, they've been showing that all along. I have had the same thought on occasion. So you're saying that's a common practice? I suspect this dates from the time when the whole family lived in one house and there was always somebody (er, some woman, LOL) left at home to keep an eye on the kids. And that actually is the case at Soonie's home. Is it my imagination or is Soonie's younger daughter more responsible than the other one? I'm a little confused, but she seems to be the one in charge and the older seems to be causing trouble, but that may be because they are similar in size. Bo
