And Ki-joon and Hee-joo used to go out as buddies, at least in his mind. She always called him "oppa" but that's used for a boyfriend so why didn't he ever stop her? He was just oblivious, I guess. So her obsession with him came as a surprise to him, after he started going out with In-young.

Yes, Ginny, but "oppa" is also used for a boy next door, or a cousin, or someone you just feel close to as if he were a brother. She grew up with him, so she would naturally call him oppa.

Is that what Jee-hae called that annoying guy from her childhood on My Precious Family? And Jae-min was so jealous. Thanks, Bo. So KJ had no reason to predict Hee-joo's obsession.

Hee-joo was obsessed with Ki-joon to the point of I-love-this-man-to-death crazy style. KJ liked Hee-joo too, but only as a younger sister. He told her that he thought of her as his little sister and that's how he wanted it to be. Yet, I don't understand why it took him so long to reject the marriage idea with her. He kept putting it off and letting her go all like, "We're getting married!" He did tell her, "Let's no rush things...I need time to figure out if you're the one for me" which made Hee-joo think there could be a possible relationship. KJ fell head over heels inlove with IY as he spent more time with her and confessed his true feelings. IY was shocked at first, but then she realized she loved KJ too. And during this whole thing, Hee-joo kept thinking she was going to marry KJ.

From the beginning, Ki-joon and Hee-joo knew eachother because of their mothers. However, KJ didn't have marital feelings for HJ, but saw her as a sister. KY met In-young, from his school days, at a re-union. They fell in love, but HJ was very jealous of their new relationship. Eventually, HJ supposedly overcame her jealousy, went to America to study, but came back still wanting KJ. HJ wished KJ and IY happiness when they married, but still waited for KJ, assuming that he'd be available for her.
The real problem is KJ's mother, referred here to here as SM (Screeching Mom). SM didn't like IY from the beginning because she wasn't from a wealthy family as HJ was. Furthermore, IY wasn't able to bear a child which meant that SM would not have a grandchild that she wanted. IY tried to conceive a child through desperate means but without a pregnancy. IY was under such stress that she planned to give KJ a divorce so that he could marry a woman who would become pregnant, so to please SM.
They separate, though it's unclear whether KJ filed for divorce. In the meantime, IY moves into an apartment paid for by KJ. IY starts to work for Jae-Min who, after becoming a widower with a young son, starts a company publishing books. IY, trying to forget KJ, is attracted to JM and his young son, Him-Chan. Likewise, JM and HC do the same.
KJ marries HJ, to make his mother happy, though he still loves IY. Before KJ marries HJ, he and IY spend a night together in a cottage because they still love eachother. Jae-Min falls in love with In-young and they plan to get married. In the meantime, Ki-joon is unhappily married to Hee-joo. HJ, who thought that she could make KJ love her, isn't happy, especially since her MIL, SM, wants her to get pregnant right away. HJ, being from a wealthy family and very independent, resents her new MIL. However, HJ finds out that her husband, KJ and IY, were together, before their marriage, in a cottage.
At this point, IY, who is engaged to Jae-Min, is having symptoms of pregnancy. She meets with Hee-Joo who tells her that she knows that her and KJ were together before they were married.
In-Young assumed that she could never become pregnant, but maybe she did because she spent a night with Ki-Joon without the stress of her MIL interfering. However, IY is supposed to be married to Jae-Min. In-Young's father even bought tickets to Guam for their Honeymoon.
Now, we're at the point of In-Young becoming pregnant by Ki-Joon. KJ is married to HJ, but she's not happy with him. If IY is really pregnant, will she return to KJ and his crazy mother, or marry Jae-Min and raise her child with JM, apart from KJ?

Should also point out that Ki-joon's mother and In-young's mother were from the same hometown and both grew up poor.
When Ok-jin married Ki-joon's father and became wealthy, she no longer had time for her old friend, and treated her like dirt. In-young witnessed this first-hand as a child.
Ki-joon's aunt has pointed out that when her sister gets real worked up, she stops speaking with a Seoul accent, and reverts back to a 'country' accent. Her veneer of sophisication is only hair thin; she threw away a real friend to cultivate rich friends like Hee-joo and her mother, who, it turns out, don't really like her, and look down upon her.

It's funny how SM has no grace, whereas Ok-ja could fit in with people of higher status, I think. Ok-jin is too selfish, greedy, and insecure to relate to others, IMO.

Yes, it's true that Ok-jin and In-young's mother knew eachother long ago. Ok-jin only became wealthy through marriage, but tries to impress Hee-joo and her mother as being "bred into wealth". They aren't impressed by Ok-jin. Ok-ja, Ok-jin's lowly sister, brings her back to reality.
The really sad part is that Ok-jin is surrounded by people, not wealthy ones, who would be there for her as family, but Ok-jin pushes them aside as being unimportant. IY's family is really happy and together, but Screeching Mom looked down on them.
Screeching Mom, KJ's mother, has done everything possible to control her son's life. Now she finds herself catering to the wealthy, spoiled Hee-joo who controls her in her own home.

There was also a scene of IY's mother's funeral. In-young was only like 11 years old at that time? She was standing still with tears rolling down her face. All of a sudden Ok-jin rushes into the place and throws herself on the floor crying over the loss of her dear friend. A young Ki-joon was there too. He looked sad and he and In-young exchanged glances.

That show of grief after insulting IY's mother by rejecting her gift (in front of IY, no less) was completely selfish. (We don't eat THAT, that's for peasants, take it home, [more or less] - then IY's mother wasn't even invited in to attend the party. Such a b----.)

Here's something on the "oppa" front...was I imagining that Bo-bae calls Ki-joon "oppa"? She came up to tell him to come to dinner, and I could swear that's what she said to him. I'll have to watch more carefully.
It's funny, the only times I find Ki-joon at all appealing is in his interactions with Bo-bae. He is so sweet with her, and tender, like a father would be. Or, well, like a favorite uncle. It makes you think he really would be a better person if he had his own child.

Yeah Bobae calls KJ 'oppa'...I think 'oppa' means Older Brother, since they're cousins, she can call him that, I know 'oppa' is used when a younger sister is talking to her older brother, a female who has an older male friend , and it can also be used when a girlfriend is talking to her boyfriend...it's sort of hard to explain and I guess I can understand this more because I'm Cambodian and we use a term that's VERY similar to this, be it in a family or in a relationship.

Yeah, overridedis, I know that (I think I gave a similar explanation above in this thread, LOL), but I was a little surprised about it because I'd think she'd call him "uncle." But you know, now that you mention it, he IS her cousin, isn't he! I guess I was thrown by the age difference. That's also what the two older aunts call their male cousin on WML (oppa).
