from the "new" kbc?!!!!!!! first the subtitles change NOW IT SEEMS LIKE THEY"RE DOING VOICE-OVERS and to top it off, the translating doesn't seem to be as detailed...like, when In Young and SM were dining after SM caught IY leaving the hosp. It seemed like SM was saying more, or at least someting more harsh than what the subtitles were showing.
mod: On a good note though, I DO like the fact that they now show subtitles for the previews! It used to always bug me that I didn't know what they were saying during them!

YEAH . it reminded me of the very old movies with dubbed in language; they were hysterical when out of synch. I guess I was too busy reading the subs to be bothered by it too much LOL. ;D

It was a bit annoying to see the audio and video out of sync. It just makes it hard to keep up with what's going on. But oh well...at least the subtitles are there.

It's odd how jarring not having the speech synch with the lips, even if you can't understand that speech.
I notice they are also subitling some written stuff as well, such as the "operating room" sign.

What always used to throw me were some of those Telenovelas on Telemundo, where they were obviously dubbed, but the lips seemed to match up with the speech. Turns out the shows are Brazilian, so they're Portugese dubbed into Spanish.

It's very annoying. The sub-titles in English seem too small and way too low to read without straining. The old way was much easier and clearer.

I saw these new subtitles for the first time this morning, in the accident episode. They are a little too low on the screen, I agree, Sandy. Also, my reception wasn't that good for the tape, so it was VERY hard to read.
But I liked that they finally went back to putting people's names up there properly (Yoo In-young instead of westernizing it to In-young Yoo). I've found that irritating, because you could HEAR them saying it differently. Maybe they took my suggestion from my long-ago letter, LOL.
I, too, felt like I was watching a kung-fu movie, Raven, especially when In-chul was talking to Mi-jung and snarling all the while--[lips move, snarl, stop moving, then] "Now I'm a bad guy!" But it seemed to get better by the end of the episode. Also, at some points, like when In-young knocked on the hospital door, you heard the knocking BEFORE her hand hit the door. I think they were adjusting as they went along.
One thing I wish they would do is use the titles people really use for each other, like "ajumma" or "aunt." It is jarring when the subtitles, for instance, have In-chul yelling "Bok-soon!" at that woman, it seems disrespectful, when really he's saying "ajumma!" Also, the fact that Aunt Hen was calling Bok-soon someone's mother wasn't clear, so when Bok-soon asked her to stop doing that, it was a little confusing. Finally, we don't get the benefit of the subtlety of Bok-soon calling the father by his name, and not in a respectful manner, either. I loved loved LOVED the look on Aunt Hen's face when Bok-soon asked to be called "little sister"--like, SURE I want you for my little sister, idiot-a.

One thing that could be a problem is "Oppa". When I was new to dramas, I wondered why "Boyfriend's" and "Older Brother's" names always sounded the same, even when the subtitles said otherwise Then I got a Korean-English dictionary, and saw the translation as "Older Brother". So, I thought, "He's not really her Boyfriend, he like an Older Brother to her " I liked the approach Michael took with his subs for WLS: explain it at first, and then just use "Oppa", as when the younger sister says "I'm going to marry that Oppa someday!" early on.

That is so true Bo, I was so angry when the speech didn't match up but at the same time It cracked me up when they were fighting and I just seemed crazy!

Yeah, I noticed the subtitles misses a lot of the small phrases I already understand, and I worry how accurate it is w/the things I don't!

Have they fixed this mess yet? I was watching the episode this morning where it is discovered grandpa has a job, and even though the out-of-sync voices were fixed, they still had all that stuff from Windows superimposed up there. (Maybe it's just a further example of the inferiority of that product, LOL.) I laughed because it said "Professional" and the result was anything but. Then they seemed to get rid of all the computer stuff except for one. little. period. in the middle of the screen, LOL. It seems like they are having SO MUCH TROUBLE airing this drama, almost like they got a set of bad DVDs.

. . . like they got a set of bad DVDs. Bo Have you noticed the "Play DVD" icon in the opening (upper right corner) of most eps of WML?
