VIB, while i and everyone else would be so very grateful, it would certainly take up a lot of your time and efforts as well.
i will let you decide if and when the time comes if you still want to attempt to do that, just the willingness at this point is very generous of you.

VIB, we watched the episode with subtitles and still enjoyed reading your "novelization." That was supercool of you to do this!

oh i'm doing it for me. i was going to do it anyway so i could always watch the vod's over and over again and know what was going on
i just figured if others needed it too...eh why not?
my korean generosity hahahahahaha
but no seriously, if i can educate others about my history and heritage, i'll grab the opportunity. if korea is going to improve for koreans, i could use any extra attention out there. and the situation certainly isn't going to improve from within korea

Thank you very much, VIB. Lately, viewing The Age of Warriors has been my sole link to sanity. When mace_windu posted the "heads up" in Honolulu about the upcoming lack of subtitles, I followed his directions to Chicago and discovered that Christy Kim has generously provided her subtitles for Episode 140, and you have provided the complete script with stage directions and dialogue! ;D Fascinating (and I have not even finished watching Episode 138)! Finally, I had to put on my Warrior boots and trudge from Honolulu to Chicago to express my complete wonderment at your command of both Korean and English, not to mention a good sense of dramatic flair. Of course, I first traveled by turtle boat from Honolulu to San Francisco, then by warhorse to Chicago. All in the blink of an eye. Not only because of your superb script writing, but also because you remarked, "the situation certainly isn't going to improve from within korea". Now, that is worthy of extended discussion, in and of itself!

Hey Tepyoung howzit going! Ladies and gentlemen, the other person in Hawaii that watches AOW. ;D Just kidding, but if you looked at KBFD's message board you'd think that was the case. VIB I agree with everyone that was a great summary, I feel like skipping over 139 and watching 140 right now on the VOD to follow along with your posts. I was gonna tell KBFD something along those lines if the subs went permanently away (and who knows what the future holds)...like hey this is a show you guys should be promoting more with pride 'cause it's Korea's history, unless you want everyone's perception of Koreans to come solely from the soap operas!

couldn't agree more mace but don't get me on the koreansyouain'tdoingsh*ttopromoteunderstanding soapbox or you'll never get me off it. as long as i have them time, i'll try to help out i think another reason is that they don't assume that a lot of non koreans watch these shows (you know how elitist koreans can be sometimes...)

Well by looking at this board they couldn't be more wrong! But I know what you mean. On KBFD they have a lot of Korean documentary and informational programs that run on weekends. One of them happens to be a show on Korean history. But do they subtitle it? Noooooo. And I wonder why, because on the Japanese station here one of the most popular programs is a subtitled show that has stories of life in Japan. And it's a bunch of reruns that are up to TEN years old, yet there is an audience for it because there's always someone who hasn't seen it and wants to know more about Japanese culture. How is it in Chicago, do they subtitle any non-dramas there? Like you said I think they are missing out on an opportunity to promote understanding between cultures by not putting more emphasis on subtitling more educational programs. I think ArirangTV's programming is quite good though. I watch the VOD stream sometimes and all the shows are in English and promote Korean culture very well. Am I getting you on your soapbox VIB? ;D

(VIB dusts off the soapbox and prepares to get on it)
i can understand the japanese programming.
in hawaii there have been many generations of japanese but because there are so many, not all speak japanese so there is an awareness of the need for subtitles
koreans pretty much assume that no one else other than koreans (or other asians at best) watch korean programming
not that i am surprised. i mean why would they think that americans would have such a keen interest in their history and culture? but that is what is so great about this board - is that we can get that awareness out there. people emailing in anger about not getting subtitles is creating a growing awareness about the international viewing audience. it's slow going of course because i think subtitling is a fairly recent phenomenon for korean tv so the viewing audience has to understand what this is like from a korean programmer's standpoint. you know, what is the big deal if 2 american's don't understand when all the koreans watching understand anyway? but that is why this message board made it into the korean news - because it was totally unexpected and i am so thrilled to see non-koreans take an interest. you'd be surprised how many actual korean-koreans couldn't give a rat's ;Dss about the wonderful culture they come from and instead are interested only in pop culture and commercialism. but it makes me so happy that there are so many non koreans taking an interest in these programs
all i can say is keep writing letters
keep posting messages
if the response is this good when subtitles are really just getting off the ground, imagine how much better it will be in a few years when they realize how many of us who watch can't understand the language.
and as always, if i can do my part to ease the frustration, i'll do what i can
(gets off her soapbox)

AMEN! Can I get a witness from the congregation? ;D Yeah really I'm hoping more non-Korean people will ask our station to subtitle some of other shows so they can learn more about the culture, instead of asking "Do Koreans always get into love triangles like in the dramas?"

well
so long as i have time, i will make sure that you do
and hey new york fans - don't be so hard on the guys at your station. i think they just severely underestimated how many people who don't speak korean watch the shows. but being mean isn't going to get them to care more. sending nice emails in mass quantities will
