As they walked away from the banquet, Jin Jae asked his uncle, "Do you believe the crown prince was being sincere?"
"It's not important," Choe said dismissively. "The imperial house needs us right now and I need the imperial house for the great cause. The crown prince is smart - he doesn't want tragedy within the palace."
They all turned to see In Soo approaching them in his ministerial robes. "Cousin!" Choe greeted, "this look suits you."
Without preamble In Soo replied, "So I heard the crown prince ordered you to kill everyone at tht banquet?"
"Word travels fast," Choe laughed. "He was drunk - it meant nothing."
"I don't think he said it in jest," In Soo replied.
"You are a minister now. You must help strengthen the regime" Choe advised his cousin.
In soo turned to Jin Jae. "I won't pardon you if you break the law."
"Perhaps with your blunt way of talking, uncle you should have been an advisor instead of a judge," jin jae suggested dryly.
"Oh but then I'd have to order Choe Choong Hon killed for deposing the emperor."
Choe was not in the mood for another altercation. "Come, let's go," was all he said

The prince made a face as he drank his tea. The princess explained, "De drinks bile in his tea."
"Why do you drink bitter bile in your tea?" Lotus asked.
"To remind me of the bitter indignity that I suffered at the hands of a villainous subject. I asked to meet with you because I need to know something."
"Please speak," she told him.
"What kind of a man is Choe Choong Hon? Is he a merit subject who brought the current emperor to the throne or a powerful military official? Of all the people who know him, there is no one who knows him better than you. Please - speak freely."
After a long silence, she answered, "His ambition is to have the world."
"The world? You mean to rise to the throne?"
She shook her head. "His ambition is greater than the throne."
The prince looked confused. "The emperor is placed on the throne by heaven's mandate. What could be greater? Please answer me."
Lotus looked uncomfortable and said, "The house of Wang may continue, but it will be the mandate of the Wobong Choe's that decides who will rise to the throne."
Understanding began to dawn on the prince's face. "So he intends to replace the mandate of the heavens..."

In front of a makeshift altar, Manjok, Sun Jang and Mijoy raised their arms to the skies as manjok shouted, "Gods of heaven and earth who created all men with equal rights, the rich and powerful have defied your will by dividing the world. Though we may be nameless slaves who live like animals to be scorned, we come to make a new world where slaves no longer exist and all men are equal. Bless our cause and guide us so that we may achieve our goals. Lead us to victory!"
Sun Jang stepped forward and added, "In exchange, we offer our own flesh and blood." With that, each man cut off a lock of his hair which was placed on the alter by the old slave. As the three men bowed low before the altar, they were completely unaware of the fat man who was observing them from the bushes

As Lotus left the princesses chambers, she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Choe Choong Hon turn and face her. "It's been a long time," he said simply. "You were invited to the palace by the princess?"
"Yes" she answered. "I told the crown prince that he should kill you?"
"What?" he asked, not sure if he had heard correctly. "Kill me?"
She looked directly into his eyes. "Yes. That's what I said."
