Or 15 to 20 minutes later because they keep showing a travelogue or video journal after MSMD, lately.

So today, the extra show was early and MSMD started at 9:04 and ended at 9:25? Then WML immediately after. Taping is sooo hard. There aren't any 10 hr. tapes are there? We need so much extra time for their lack of scheduled starts.

That's why I like having a hard-disk based video recorder. I can record an extra half-hour at both ends of a show to assure getting the whole thing (but even then . . . ), and then deleting the overage. I also try to record the evening broadcast and the re-airing, so in case ch28 screws up one of them, I have a good copy to archive. Although, all the technical problems WOCH has makes me wonder, "Why bother"

I don't have TiVo, but does anyone know if TiVo picks up this program? That would be one way of getting the whole episode and no extra junk (travelogues, tours of Lee Chang-hoon's house , etc.) on either end. It would be pretty cool.

TiVo will pick up anything you have ON YOUR TV. So, if you have cable, it picks all the channels you have for that, and if you have only an antenna, it does that--you just tell it what you get and it sets itself, and you can amend if it misses something (because of a weak signal). So at my house, I still can't get Channel 28 because it does not come in on my TV at all, antenna or cable, even though we have TiVo. It's not like getting cheap cable, LOL.
By the way, we LOVE TiVo. Bob went out and got it over the weekend and it's really neat-o, especially whizzing through those darned cellphone commercials.

Bo Bo, do you have to pay the subscription fee or can you get the recorder to work without paying? DH bought a really nice Tivo machine (with DVD recorder), but I was afraid we'd have to pay EXTRA to get the thing to work so I returned it to Best Buy. (Was going to buy it for Korean TV! LOL) Thanks for any info. Melissa

What I don't get about tivo is --is it saved in your house, or in some central location? I read somewhere that the most tivoed thing was Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. How the heck do they know that? Also, I read that it's only saved for a certain period of time.

I *think* tivo is stored on the hard drive of the machine. At least that's what I would think all the memory is for. We have two tivos (for Directv, not korean dramas! LOL) and both have about 20 or 40 GB of memory. You can save the programs for as long as you want to...or not. They get deleted when you say they can. :-)
Tivo's wonderful. I can't imagine life without it. I usually don't watch TV in real time because I record it to FF through all the commercials! Plus I can record shows I want to watch, but won't be home to see. (Which is why we wanted another one for our Korean satellite)
Anywho....I'm anxious to hear what Bo has to say about how their tivo works with regular TV. We have to pay extra for the service with DirecTv, and I would love to not have to pay any more! LOL)

I don't know, hon. We pay $13 a month as a subscription. It's really like a superior VCR, isn't it. We live in a high-rise, so our TV is one up from basic cable. We get most bunch of channels between 1 and 99. We wanted to get digital (and their directTV), but our building is not wired for it yet. Therefore, they are giving us the upgraded basic for free until they do that. I think we plugged it in and got it to work right away, but we could not record anything until we signed up for the service. (We could watch TV and make it pause and stuff, but not record it.) So, the short answer here, I don't think you can use TiVo without signing up for TiVo, but to me, $13 a month is not bad. Also, the box costs $200, but you get a $150 rebate (from TiVo) after one month (you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it), and you can pre-register on line for that rebate. If you order the box directly from TiVo, you only pay the $50 because then they can refund your $50 directly.
Is this too confusing?

Nope. You meant "refund your $150 directly" in the last line, though, right? Sounds like a good deal to me! I don't have an extra $13 a month, or else I'd get it, too! I would LURVE to have K-dramas with the fat trimmed, so to speak. I mean, that's what TiVo does, right? Or does it only record programs as they are scheduled? --In which case, that's not gonna help us with good ol' Channel 28. In other words, I had the impression that in addition to what you program into it, TiVo searches for shows that it thinks you will like based on your stated preferences. And then records them when they actually start.

...You meant "refund your $150 directly" in the last line, though, right? No, because when you buy directly from Tivo, you only pay $50 in the first place. Yes, you give it preferences and then it records stuff based on what you like. The problem you'll have with ANY channel, though, is that Tivo accesses TV Guide to find out when stuff is aired, so if TV Guide has an inaccurate listing, so does Tivo. (I don't know if TV Guide lists WOCH at all. Do you?) You can do what's called a "season pass" and have it always record a program for you, and if something has a habit of airing five minutes earlier or later, you can set it to account for that. Also, you can nudge times "on the fly"--for instance, Bob wanted the Simpsons on Sunday but the football game ran over. Even though it had begun recording that episode (really the end of the game), Bob was able to "nudge" the ending so it recorded the whole thing. By "fat trimmed" I assume you think it'll take out commercials, but it won't. In fact, according to Bob, some stations list their shows inaccurately on purpose, then air them a minute or so early, because they are mad that people can skip commercials with TiVo. So you have to be aware of that and compensate if it's very important. The short answer to all these questions is, SOJU HAS BEEN USING TIVO TO RECORD WOCH. So, he knows how you do that. I don't know why I didn't think of that before, LOL. Bo

Thanks, Bo! That's what I was afraid of...paying for the service. *sigh* The DVR DH bought was an LG recordable DVD player/DVR recorder, so it was beautiful and very useful for this K-nut family...okay, so I'm the only nut in the house. (DH thinks I'm crazy.) I didn't see it offered on their website (apparently it's the first of it's kind...DH has to have the latest of everything it seems.) We don't need an extra $14 going OUT when we're already spending WAAAAY too much on TV/satellite services. Melissa
