I can't believe you guys didn't even talk about my favorite episode, #55. This is the pivotal episode where Grandma finally starts to accept Ji-yeun, and it contains my favorite scene of all, when they are oiling the laver and discussing why Grandma is so hard on Jiyeun and easy on Goeun. (By the way, Lucy, this is also the episode where Grandma reveals that third-floor grandma is considered a great beauty, when she says that her MIL made Duk-ja look like a nothing.) It's where Grandma revealed how difficult it was for her to come into the house and be treated badly because she was "ugly." It's the most touching conversation. Also, it's where Jiyeun finally figures out how to deal with Grandma, which is to make her an accomplice in her various schemes to make things more efficient and fair. ("Grandma, there is a matter that requires your attention!") Also, in episode #56, there is the lovely scene where Gr. tells Jiyeun that she left her sleeping on the floor rather than waking her, and Jiyeun began to cry. Tch, tch. You guys have hearts of stone, LOL.
In that mix of episodes that was skipped, they apparently missed something that I think is important about Jiyeun. Have you noticed that she insists on going down to meet Father when he comes in, no matter how late? And that everyone keeps asking, "Who will miss dinner" or lunch? Well, that's because she noticed that people came and went without letting each other know, so dinner often was made for many more than appeared. She asked (I don't remember how she accomplished it) everyone to call in when they could not come home, so dinner would not be held or food wasted. Also, she insisted that the chauffeur call when father was coming home, so he could be greeted properly. I think this must have something to do with her being a latchkey child, and with her father having left home so early in her life. Even though she talks about modern women, she really longs for and arranges for those homey, old-fashioned values to be observed.
Also, they apparently skipped over the matter of Goeun telling everyone she was pregnant. That is too bad. There's a scene where she is clutching Joon to her heart and crying, because she is afraid he'll be pushed aside for the baby. But they put her fears to rest. I can't really remember it clearly, and I'm sorry they did not show it again.
Also, what about the corbina kerfluffle's aftermath? When Hana called her mom and started the big stink? Jiyeun knew IMMEDIATELY where the leak had occurred when her mom called her--"HANA!" Hah, hah, hah. Then Hana's reaction was priceless. "Shoot me now! I surrender to my punishment! Sir, yes, sir!" She really is a good girl.
