I saw my tape and it was such a cute episode. Examples of cuteness: 1) Grandpa practicing his English: "Excuse me, how many blocks to the city hall?" 2) "Let's drink coffee from cute teacups." Jieun to Yoonsik. 3) As Lucy had mentioned before, Yoonsik kissing and making a fuss over little Joon. 4) Hyunsik hugging Goeun when she brings over his cup of coffee. 5) "Do you have inner guts?" Bokja asking Cha. Sad moment: When Goeun tells Hyunsik that she tried to suicide herself twice.

I'm going to propose that to the next man I meet for coffee (if ever, ha!). And #4, well, we don't see enough of that kind of thing; just a random sweet, intimate moment between two people in love. I confess I don't know what that "inner guts" stuff is about--does she mean character, like "intestinal fortitude"? Poor Goeun; though clearly we might have guessed, I don't think we could have visualized just how terrible and hopeless she'd felt, as if she'd made an irreparable mess of her life and had nowhere to go. It's easier to see now why she acted like a zombie, the way Hee-soo in "MPC" told herself one day, "You're dead." Anyway, I guess from now on Goeun will be starting to come back to life and showing more of her personality as she begins to feel safer and as if maybe everything is going to be all right now. Maybe she'll get closer with her future sisters-in-law and push those potential couples together.

Goeu has so much to overcome. But the is a scene pretty far down the road where she gets off a zinger. And since it comes from Goeun, the "zingee" is doubly taken aback.

...Examples of cuteness: 1) Grandpa practicing his English: "Excuse me, how many blocks to the city hall?"... 5) "Do you have inner guts?" Bokja asking Cha.... The funny part of the "city hall" speeches was how he pronounced "city"--ROFL. It was sweet and cute. In My Sweetheart, he plays someone who lived in America--maybe he was preparing for that part on this show! Did anyone else watching get the idea that when Duk-ja asked if Cha had "inner guts" she really was asking a more...personal question? Like, questioning his manhood in so many words? And the translator made it more palatable for American TV? I got that feeling when she was later discussing it with Grandpa Duk-bae, because he told her if "it" wasn't there, it'd be on the medical records. Bo

No, it didn't occur to me, but I'm not exactly sure what you're saying she might have meant. Do you mean whether he's up to the task of performing his husbandly duties? Or whether he could father a child maybe? No, I guess you mean the former, since he does already have two children. Why would she concern herself with that, though? I mean, would she really be entertaining thoughts of "that bastard," whom she can barely stand, touching her daughter in that way and worrying if he was able? Then again, she is a nosy and blunt old lady, so she probably does think it's her business: "If he's going to take my daughter, at least let him be enough of a _man_ to have her." Oh, I deleted the part of the quotation above about Grandpa, but yes, it is enjoyable to hear him speak English. On "Sweetheart," it's refreshing to have him slip into English because usually on these shows, when characters have spent time in the US, you would never think they even could speak the language. There isn't much reason to have them do so, of course, but I like the verisimilitude that "Sweetheart" Grandpa's occasional "thank you" and such brings.

Or whether he could father a child maybe?... I think she was accusing him of having had "it" removed in a terrible emasculation accident. You can't win with the Majorette--either she yells at you for speaking without respect, or she accuses you of being a wuss. ;D Bo
