This weekend I watched the 1st 3-hour disk in my IYSS purchase. I'm not making this up.... within the first 30 minutes we saw IYSS as a little boy, along with his beautiful mother... we saw him as a young man ... and then ... WHAM! There he was, all decked out in his blue outfit with the red sash. Naibal (sp?) was with him but there was no indication as to who he was and how he bcame YSS's confidant. I so loved YSS's aged teacher and how he laid down such lifetime disciplies. All gone, no mention of these things. My memory doesn't operate at 100% all the time, but man, there is just so much that has been sliced and diced . And the music is different than the original. I always remember a beautiful piece of classical music that accompanied various scenes (don't know the name of it) If I was viewing this without the rich background of having seen the original, I'd have lots of questions. I know I'll get something out of watching this again ... but only because I remember some of the 'real stuff. If so much has been sliced out, I cannot imagine what I'm in for. I may have to purchase some separate disks from AMAZON.

Yeah, Kathleen, I believe the first four hours were definitely "sliced and diced" -- I think those were the number of "setting up" episodes we had in the original run. And the music is different? That's strange, since they'd presumably have the rights to use it since it's KBS's show and KBS's DVD release--right? It's not like it's WKRP in Cincinnati getting screwed on abuse of fair use rules.

Hi back to you, UKFan. Thought we'd lost you for good, LOL. I'm as well as can be expected. Okay, tinkerbell & ajk, are you saying that you are having these issues on DVDs you bought from KBS? That's ridiculous! I'd definitely complain vociferously (where did I put that dictionary, LOL), no matter how long I'd had them. That's just wrong. Bo Haha! I am still around..alive and kicking...just! ;D ;D You have a IYSS board here so I thought I make the effort if that is alright. Anyway, I though DJG was a great drama (still is actually) but IYSS is in a completely different league! What a man and his inspiration keeps me going! ;D

Bo, what kathleen is describing is the condensed set--the 33-hour set with the inferior subtitles. In that set the first 25 episodes are completely gone, except for just a few minutes of footage. And 26-50 have been hacked up pretty severely too.

Hi everyone, duu, I had some consistent glitches in a few of the eps. you described (not like other eps. though, these weren't as bad). I'm not into the 70's yet, so I'll let you know. Did you e-mail them at all? Would they replace the set with one better produced? The Bo, yes the DVDs are from KBS. It is rather disheartening considering the price. ukfan,I agree . It was an awakening. You really took a good look at your own life and felt humbled, inspired, and even guilty for complaining about having a bad day. One of our bad days was probably like one of YSS's good days. Not only did he go through hell on earth but he had so many enemies because they were jealous or they thought he was in their way. All the poor people too lived such a miserable existence. I found myself asking "what would YSS do or think " when I was having a problem. He had incredible patience and perseverance. I admire him so much. Is the quote you mentioned from somewhere in the beginning? Was it after he aced the exam but the ministers wouldn't let him because" he was a son of a traitor"? Then he was falsely accused and fled, and went to study martial arts under Master Nam? I remember him saying he wanted to become strong. After Mijin was taken and the Master was killed by the Japanese, YSS swore to protect those he loved. After the Nok-dune Island tragedy, he swore to never record the names of his men whom were killed and to never again be defeated. Yes, those words were very powerful and inspiring (like most of what he said was). ;D

Yes, we all can learn from the IYSS that is for certain. About my quote, you are of course right and more! Yes, it was YSS's thought when he was on the run after he was from framed. The interesting point here was that he made the promise to his mother and not his father. I guess we can deduce that YSS's mother had a greater influence on him than his father. From the drama we were shown that it was her mother who guided him as he was growing up. That part of YSS's life was very well illustrated in the drama. What was it like in reality? ukfan

tinkerbell and duu--One thing that occurred to me reading your recent posts is that KBS America is going to need to offer a better warranty period on these large DVD sets. I mean, they can't possibly expect people to watch a 100-episode series in two weeks, but according to the "Terms & Conditions" page on their website, any defects have to be reported within 14 days. Even if I watch two episodes every week it will take a year to get through IYSS. What happens if I get to the last few episodes and there's a quality problem? Yep I agree with you here. it took me a good month and a half to finish up the series. So I too believe the fourteen day refund is unfair for full box sets.

KBS America / e-store may be a a new business. It's a lousy business. Today I put in Disc #2 ... toward the end of the disc it started the stop, stop, stop, stop routine. Could't read subtitles, every scene was loaded with stops. And the BESt part, here's what appeard on my TV screen [glow=red,2,300]Please check foe disc for stains or scratches[/glow]$200 for a piece of sliced-up crap. I emailed them but I'm not holding my breath. This is a huge disappointment. They chouldn't have opened their cyber-doors till they were sure they could offer a quality product. I've purchased sever; boxed DVD sets from Yesasia and have always received 110% quality product. KBS America needs to go back to business school.

Is it the edited boxed set, or the episode on demand version?? And the BESt part, here's what appeard on my TV screen [glow=red,2,300]Please check foe disc for stains or scratches[/glow]That sounds like a message from your DVD player because it can't read the disc.... This happens when the disc was burned at a speed higher than the blank media can handle...

I was able to watch the entire 1st disc... on to the 2nd disc. At the end of episode 5 it started it's stop, stop, stop routine. So is it possible that while I was able to view 2 hours or so, that the same disc could be goofy midway? Calling is probably a good idea as my email is somewhere in cyberspace and nobody will want to respond to it. I feel like returning the entire set, getting a credit refund, and reordering the set from Hanbooks.

kathleen--I don't think that KBS America produced the set you bought; I think they just imported it. That still makes them responsible for it, of course, but if there's a problem with the DVD quality I'm guessing it wasn't their doing (as opposed to whatever problems might exist with the EOR complete set, which they've produced themselves).
Actually this is a good opportunity for you; you can get a refund on the hacked-up set, assuming that you can straighten it out with them, and put it towards the complete EOR set. Please do keep us posted.

I come before you a humbled woman. I got a very nice, a very compassionate email from KBS America. I just got home and read it. During the day I called the person who emailed me. Kris Lee. a gentle man with a pleasant demeanor. He is sending me a jewelbox mailer and will replace my damaged disc. he agree that the set is terribly chopped up. He was very nice to talk with ... and so I must share that information. I asked about th 14-day return.... 'doesn't matter'... so I guess as a new business they ARE trying their hand at customer service. I do hope I don't run into more damaged discs... but at least if I do I feel there is reasonable recourse.

kathleen34, this is what duu and I have been talking about except we bought the full version(104 eps.). Somebody really is sleeping on the job producing these discs. I don't know what to do about my set. Like I said before, some episodes play fine and if I go back and try to watch it again, it could be screwed up. Other discs have consistent glitches. I wouldn't know which ones to send back. Actually,I'd like to send the whole set back and ask them to take their time and send me a set without any flaws. Poor duu e-mailed them the other day and hadn't received a response(unless they finally e-mailed back and duu just hasn't posted it yet). The Bo, ajk, duu, and I have discussed this. For your sake, I hope that is the only ep. that is messed up.Unfortunately I can't send them back for a refund because nobody else is selling all 104 eps.
