Just learned about this new 2005 Korean sci-fi/action/comedy featuring our beloved Yi Soon Shin A group of North and South Korean soldiers are sent back in time to 1572, where they meet a young man who is slated to become the great admiral Yi Soon-shin. Dubbed "Heaven's Soldiers," the group ends up meeting Yi Sun Shin (Park Joong Hoon), the real life admiral who led Korea to victory against the Japanese. However, the legendary Yi isn't quite what the soldiers expected. Rather than the mythical hero of legend he's thought to be in the present day, the Yi the soldiers encounter is actually a thief and a rascal, one who can't even pass the officer's exam! Shocked that their hero could be so lax in his studies, the soldiers give Yi a crash course in military education, all in the hopes he'll fulfill his destiny! dvd should be out next week

I rented this but it hasn't arrived yet. It will be really weird seeing another actor playing YSS...and stranger still to see him portrayed as a rogue.

I tried to watch this last night, but it was so bad I couldn't even finish it. Low production values, and not funny at all. Watching it after the beautiful and touching scenes of episode 97 just made it worse.

Ah, I was going to ask you about this, roxelana. Too bad about the movie, I was going to get it but maybe I won't waste my time. Now, if I could just get my mind around the Latin. Hybrida I get, but roxelana? ... Butterflies, butterflies... Bo

Bo I got the "hybrida" from a novel I read about ancient Rome and "roxelana" was the name of a concubine of a Ottoman sultan who became an empress. The names just seem to go together somehow. (Yes, I am a history buff, can you tell?

That's the one. Her story (or the story of the Ottoman Empire in general) would make a good drama series, I think.

My gosh, Roxelana, you got a hard act to follow there, LOL. You're right about the movie. I don't think we'll see one any time soon, though. You know, chick flick. Bo

i watched the movie as well. it actually wasn't too bad. i would say the movie is a bit unconventional and the story somewhat farfetched, however it was entertaining.

Although, the story being farfetched doesn't have much to do with the quality of a movie... In fact, it's not just farfetched, it's completely ridiculous. Not to say that the movie was entirely bad. It was just a good enough 2 hours. The end was nice, with our hero going to the battle of Myeongryang. Kind of ties with the drama there.
