Oh, it's "JSA". I saw it in Parisian cinema theatre several years ago. Was Waki in that movie ? I didn't know he played the role of the North Korean officer. I also viewed "Musa" and "Shiri" in Parisian theatres. But, in that epoch, I didn't give any attention to Pak Yong-Wu (KDS in AOW) who played in both of them and I didn't know him before I started viewing AOW this year. lol It seems that Pak Yong-Wu's part in "Musa" (confucian scholar and interpreter) was largely cut out in Parisian version. Thanks for photos, Level.

Thanks, Level! My kid just loves the extras, especially that pudgy one you included who is eating ;D All of these actors bring such personality to their roles--they truly honor the memory of the heroic men they portray!

I have to object to how you guys are characterizing these actors. An "extra" is a person who stands around as part of a crowd scene or walks anonymously up and down the street; they may occasionally have one line, but they are not usually heard in any way except to make crowd noises. In IYSS, the extras are the anonymous soldiers and citizenry we see frantically running in and out of battle and other scenes.
These people we are discussing have full-fledged roles in the drama. They are not extras. They have lines and specific characters. They might be called minor characters. Rice-ball man (Dae-man?) particularly has a large role. And so does the Taiko's young wife.

Bo You're right. It's just that in Korean, those minor roles are usually called 'extra.' So I think level just used the word. So Yi Sunshin would be a major role (juyeon) as well as the title role (juingong). The small number of important people-king, wakizaka, etc-would be major roles(juyeon). And then people like Yi Youngnam and Yi Wan, as well as Toyotomi Hideyoshi would be minor roles (joyeon). And the soldiers guys or Hideyoshi's wife would be 'extra'. And finally the extras in the correct sense of the word would be called 'short roles'(danyeok) in Korean. Yeah, but now that I think of it, the boundary is pretty blurry, especially since there are so many people in the show.

Bo I agree, Bo. These are supporting actors in supporting, some minor roles. And STARS, every one of them to me!!! They bring a richness and awesome depth to their performances.

Bo Well, I see what you mean but I used 'extras' to tell you that they are low ranking, less important roles. I sorted by myself king , adminsters, admirals are major roles, each admirals' lieutenants are minor roles and soldiers are extras. PS. Is Daeman(rice-ball man) is historical person? and his role is just commanding one cannon. minor minor role.

Well, it looks like Level is trying to kill us with kindness, LOL. What a beautiful cornucopia of photos. Anyway, the Korean sense may be "extra" for a minor role, but here in the US, as a former (not for long, LOL) actor, I can tell you that if I had Dae-man's role and you called me an extra I'd be really, really mad. Sometimes it does happen that an extra or day player (on American soaps, "day players" have slightly larger, maybe one or two line, roles than extras have) takes the fancy of a director, and they get a bigger role, but then they are no longer extras.
