According to newspaper, he grew up in japan and he went to MIT and worked for some architectural engineering firm in US. He married german descent American originally. He returned briefly to Korea. They got divorced without child and then he went to Japan and remarried. might be sad soap opera story.
It is just sad history.
For me, it is sad but careless.
Incompetent leaders and dynasty which led people into many suffering.

Where were they when korea got divided? Where were they during korean war? Where were they during military iron fist and dictatorship? According to wikipedia and answers.com, in 1895 Japan forced Emperor Gojong to abdicate, and they assassinated his wife. In 1910 Japan annexed Korea, relocated the princes and princesses to Japan and "re-educated" them. At the end of WWII the Crown Prince lost his status in Japan. In 1963 Korea's Republican government invited him to return, but he had a stroke as the plane was landing in Seoul and never recovered. He died in 1970. Also, after WWII the royal family had no assets (all confiscated) and they were homeless. The younger members lived in a monastery on Jeju Island during the Korean war. Seok, the son of the third son of Emperor Gojong was born in1941, and worked odd jobs to support the family. He is now a Professor of history at Jeonju University. He has 2 daughters and a son. There may also be other princesses and their offspring surviving.

It is just sad history. For me, it is sad but careless. Incompetent leaders and dynasty which led people into many suffering. It is indeed sad. Exile and disgrace do not recognize social class and economic standing. And you're so right meowmeow, the common man suffers most of all.

Who cares, the house of Manchu should have been wiped out and eliminated. What is Manchu? I always thought it referred to China.

This might be a start: www.metmuseum.org/toah/ht/09/eak/ht09eak.htmIf you read this time line, you will find that not only is trespasser's post rude, it is misleading. The Manchus are the ones who kidnapped the princes as hostages. Bo

Chosen's founder is a Manchu warlord who originally worked for the Mongols, then switched to Koryo court when then Mongol power weakened. In fact, Chosen's founder was the chief commander of the expedition army to Beijing, who betrayed the faith placed on him and gathered his Manchurian supporters to overthrow the Koryo dynasty instead.
The House of Manchu is widely hated because that was the one and only chance to overrun Beijing.

Ya, trespasser.
please do not mislead people with fictional story.
Your claim has a lot of leaps and bounds.
History, you can put whatever you want.
At least present logical and document and theory your calim supports.
then we can argue.

I think trespasser (and some posters from Korea) has a kind of ultranationalistic viewpoint about Korean history. Actually some ultranationalists abhor the Chosun dynasty which voluntarily became a tributary to Ming China. So they even believe Yi Sung-gye, the founder of Chosun dynasy, was not a Korean but a Manchurian who betrayed and overthrew the Koryo dynasty. They also hate Won Kyun so much. They don't allow other people to interpret Won Kyun character in a new way. (Even in drama or novel! They can't tell a documentary film from a movie or drama) That's why the official Korean IYSS board as well as this Chicago board are filled with their insults about IYSS and KBS. A few weeks ago, some stupid Korean nationalists spread a rumor that KBS was bribed by Japanese untranationalists. That's why, they belive, KBS describes Japanese Samurais in IYSS as gorgeously as possible. haha... (Do you agree that the Samurais are gorgeous? )
