Anyone up for a Star Wars thread now since Episode III is out?
So much to discuss, there is (as Master Yoda would say).
How about that General Grievous?

**Spoiler Alert**
Well Eowyn, I saw the movie twice yesterday, once at 12:01, and then later last night at 9:45 with my wife. I thought it was a very enjoyable film. The classic appeal of Star Wars (for me) has always been the way that tragedy, romance, action and politics collide with deeply spititual overtones throughout the movies. Ep. 1 and 2 were not as strong as the earlier releases by my criteria, but still delightful nonetheless. Ep. 3 recaptured this essence in nice fashion and I was very pleased to experience it.
Regarding Grievous...
He certainly was a menacing figure. Interesting that someone of his significance had a relatively small role. He didn't seem to fear the Jedi one bit, and I found the fight scene between he and Obi Wan very exhilarating.
I see him like a rabid animal who, though not healthy, is more dangerous because of his illness.

I quite agree, seven stars. And it was interesting to see the end of the film bit by bit take on "the look" of Episode IV, as familiar things met our eyes.

The film moved quickly, but it tied the whole story together very well. That final sequence was interesting Eowyn.
I really found the film kind of depressing in that the entire second half revolves around the self destruction and wretched deeds of the central character. A very sad story indeed.
I don't know if you've realized this Eowyn, but the critics liked episodes 3 and 5 the best out of all of the films. Critics seem to love the dark film against more hopeful, celebratory story lines.
Just my take on it. What do you think?

I agree as well, seven stars. The movie was riveting from beginning to end, full of events, and indeed tied things up. I had great appreciation for the small details such as **EP. III SPOILERS**
seeing Obi-wan take Anakin's light sabre after the lava duel (remember old Ben later gives it to Luke in ep. 4)
seeing the gleaming white passages of senator Organa's ship, the ship which Leia gets captured in in 4
seeing the emperor's red cloaked bodyguards from return of the jedi (who Yoda so abruptly knocks out)
hearing how Qui Gon Jin learned the knowledge of how to return from the netherworld (wonder if he got it from Kyung Dae-seung?), which explains how Obi-wan, after his death, learned how to appear to Luke. Remember he says to Vader in 4 that If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you ever imagined.
the droids get their minds erased!
the x-wing fighters! (is that the right name, or is it tye fighters?)
the Grand Moff Tarkin Peter Cushing look-a-like!
Yes, I thought Anakin's descent upsetting and disturbing. The movie began with him trying to be a loyal jedi with him curbing his impetuousness (this time NOT taking on Dooku by himself!) But after striking Master Windu, he seemed to give up on any thought of how to set things right and, thinking things beyond his control, he threw in his lot with the emperor.
It was upsetting to see things change in so short a time. One moment everyone is going about their business, but in the next moment jedi masters are killed, the temple is on fire, and Anakin is irretrievably lost.
It was sad that there was no Obi-wan to help Anakin. He was all alone in that council room before deciding to go to the chancellor's chambers during the arrest.
It was interesting how the Chancellor had urged Anakin to kill Dooku, saying that Dooku was dangerous and better off dead. Anakin killed him and then regretted it, saying that it wasn't the jedi way. Later Windu said those same words to Anakin about the chancellor, that he was dangerous and should die, but Anakin had protested and insisted on trial. So confused, was Anakin.
I didn't think that I'd feel so disturbed seeing Anakin burned, but I was. I suppose it was because it was like....no going back now, all is lost. Changed forever, burnt beyond recognition.
And the entombing of him in the Vader suit made it feel so stifling, how the mask sealed shut and the eyes made to forever see artificially in red.
yeh, the critics do favor the darker films. I think maybe they are looking for ultimate despairing drama, perhaps forgetting that Star Wars was inspired by comic book type old time film serials (hence I can look past any dialogue or acting that I feel is stilted in the newer films, except for "G-wiz/Yippee!" Anakin from the Phantom Menace) and that good drama is also cheering when the death star blows up!
My, rattle on, I do (I'l have to stop with the yoda talk!) Just my two cents!

I must say that I saw the film again and I seemed to understand it better, so I must make corrections to my previous post: **SPOILERS EP. 3** I see more clearly now (and I kinda feel dumb not seeing it exactly so before) that Anakin's final decision to seek the dark side was indeed to gain the Sith knowledge to save Padme, that it was fear of losing her that drove him to intervene between Windu and Palpatine and, despite regret, to go along with the chancellor.

I will see the final Star Wars movie when it's on DVD. Count me on that list also. I like Star Wars movie but wasn't something I would rush out to see. I only saw Empire Strike Back and episode 2 so the storyline for me is way uncomplete.

This weekend, my nephew was telling us that he had seen the Star Wars movie and he started to tell us the ending. We all shouted, "NO!" and he said, "But I already know what happened in the end!" He thought we were concerned that we would spoil the end for him. (He's 12.)
I'm so glad you posted all those SPOILER warnings, Eowyn. It made it easy to skim.

I have not seen this YET. Even though I am a Star Wars fan. I even have the Sony Ericsson Star Wars phone with the face plate, ringtones, and wallpaper. I'm not sure when we will see it but we will since we will see it for free (thanks again to my cell phone promotion). I can't wait until this is out on DVD so we can watch all 6 in a row!

Actually Chigirl, my wife, another friend and I watched episodes I and II on Monday night, Ep. III on Thursday, and Eps. IV, V, and VI on Friday night. So it wasn't actually all the way through, but it was pretty close. Great fun, knowhatimean!

Have you seen the Darth Vader lawn sprinkler yet, Chigirl? (I'm not kidding.) They do seem to be marketing this episode more shamelessly than usual. My Dear Bob is getting skittish about going to see it. He says, "How can I take Yoda seriously when I've seen him stealing someone's diet Pepsi, for god's sake?"

I suppose Lucas is cashing in, as this will be his final opportunity to do so.
Not sure I'm for it though.
