So as a Korean born in America, I've been hard pressed to find many that are genuinely concerned with the direction in which Korea is headed. Fortunately it gives me great hope to see such interest in Korean culture on this board, and it's even more remarkable to me that so many on here are non-Koreans
I know I've been away for a while - I've been so busy at the hospital, but I've been talking with a new friend these days who is rediscovering his Korean identity and he remarked to me that it was a shame that I wasn't more active in trying to promote awareness about the situation in Korea, as he could see that it was of great importance to me. I countered with the fact that I find it hard to believe that one person could ever do anything to stop the centuries old tide of corruption and apathy that has been so pervasive in Korean history (Age of warriors and YSS - not just commentary on the past...)
I've wanted actually very much to find some sort of means of giving people (not just Koreans or Komericans) a means of learning about what is going on in Korea (this board already does a great job) as well as a way to raise funds to send overseas to help those who really need it. Of course I never took this seriously as I'm no Admiral Yi, heck I'm not even close, so I figured what was the point of even trying. But just out of curiosity, I wanted to throw out an idea that i've kicked around in the past.
I love to draw, and the beautiful costumes and pangeantry of Korea and its history certainly offer much to work with. I can't help but be impressed by how much these dramas have affected people's interests, and I'm just thinking aloud now, but what would you all think if somehow it would be possible to create a Korean Historical Graphic Novel of some sort? I thought it would be great to do for something like Age of Warriors, but especially now with the advent of the Immortal Yi Soon Shin, I think it would make a gorgeous artistic narrative. It would be great to be able to make such a novel and then try to market it to raise proceeds to help those who are suffering in either the north or the south.
I'm probably being way to idealistic here and the whole thing probably makes no sense and has no chance of coming to fruition but I was just wondering what all of you thought about it as an idea? I'd love to be able to get many more non Koreans interested in my culture as well as the current social/political climate in Korea.
Single biggest problem right now is that I definitely can't do this sort of thing by myself. One of my drawings takes at least a day...so this would take forever. Unless anyone else out there knows some people or have suggestions on how to make this fantasy of mine into a reality.
Okay, i'm going to shut up now.
It's nice to see you all again!
