That picture of YSS with the sword! That's like the longest sword I had ever seen anywhere anytime! Either that or he's a midget.

Well, Choko, are they making the little coins any more, or is that a picture of a collector's item? I never can figure out why countries keep having more and more humongous money, instead of doing some financial wizardry so that one won or ruble or lira or whatever is worth something again.
This is why Alan Greenspan has nothing to worry about from the Bo Corner.

The Bank of Korea does not make 5 won (turtle ship) coin any longer. Collectors of old coins are buying it in a flea market. Recently the South Korean government is considering to denominate the money. They are also finding a historical character to be on a new bill through public announcements.

How about, "Coin of Choko"? It has a nice ring to it.

Well, the government is going to make a new bill, not new coin. Bo, Thanks for the idea about the coin of Choko... ;D Release the O.S.T~~!! KBS announced today that they have no plan to release the IYSS OST as of now. So, many IYSS fans held a cyber demonstration on the official website for urging KBS to release it.

Seriously, I really do like the OST. I hope they'll come out with one soon. I usually don't buy CDs but I'll I'm willing to buy the IYSS OST. That music is very motivating; I could go jogging with it.

...That music is very motivating; I could go jogging with it. Or clean the house or create a painting or renovate the walls or entertain the multitudes or WAIT! REPEL THE INVADERS! Yeah, it would be GREAT background music for THAT! ;D Bo

Konishi Yukinaga : "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts of the Apostles 16:31)" Today, I read a book about Konishi Yukinaga and Japanese Catholic church. To my surprise, Konishi was canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church although he killed so many Korean(Chosun) people during the 7-year-war. I think, that's why this drama depicted him as the only good person among the cruel Japanese samurais. Hmmm....

That's kind of crazy. I don't want to invite any more ugly conversation, but didn't Japan have anyone more appropriate? *No* good people? My vote would have gone to that monk that let himself be killed rather than advising the Takei (right word?) to go to war against Chosun, but my view of him is entirely given by the YSS drama, I don't know what he was really like. Then again, if the Catholic church was trying to strengthen its hold on Japanese people, perhaps that monk was seen as a traitor in Japan.

Bo, according to the book, Konishi Yukinaga was a very religious samurai who devoted himself to evangelizing Japan. He could not help but go to the war in Chosun against his will, because Hideyoshi hated Christians so much that Catholic samurais were sent to Chosun first of all. During the 7-year war, Konishi invited Catholic priests to Chosun. Louis Frois, a Portuguese Missionary, quoted Konishi's letters from Chosun in his book Historia de Japan (History of Japan). After the war, Konishi returned to Japan and entered a new war called "the battle of Sekigahara" in 1600. He was on the Toyotomi's side led by Ishida Mitsunari and the army was defeated by the Tokugawa's side. Konishi was captured. He chose to be beheaded rather than commit suicide by harakiri(disembowelment). At that time, it was a shame for Samurais to be beheaded by their enemy, but he stuck to his Christian belief : Suicide is a sin. According to the book, that's why the Roman Catholic church canonized him as a saint. Anyway........ ;D (Let me return to a picture topic) I found a gorgeous flash of the Immortal YSS. Oops, the flash animation takes about 9.74 Mb. So, it seems to take long time for modem users to open the page. It also contains some battle scene spoilers. Be careful.

question: Is harakiri and seppuku the same thing? From Websters's: One entry found for hara-kiri. Main Entry: hara-kiri Pronunciation: "har-i-'kir-E, -'kar-E Function: noun Etymology: Japanese harakiri, from hara belly + kiri cutting 1 : ritual suicide by disembowelment practiced by the Japanese samurai or formerly decreed by a court in lieu of the death penalty 2 : SUICIDE 1b One entry found for seppuku. Main Entry: sep·pu·ku Pronunciation: se-'pü-(")kü, 'se-p&-"kü Function: noun Etymology: Japanese : HARA-KIRI 1 Seems like they are the same thing. There may be subtle differences that someone may be able to enlighten us about. I'm not about to ask that at work.

Even though he killed all those Chosun people, he refused to sin by commiting suicide. I'll buy that. ;D I looked at your flash movie--does it have sound? My computer at work does not have a sound card (long story-boring), so I could not hear anything, but it really was nice to finally see the photos clearly. I just don't get that great a reception on my TV. Thanks. Bo

Wierd. I was not able to get the flash this morning but I was this afternoon. That's pretty long. I don't have speakers at work so I'll have to check that out at home. Very well put together. Thanks once again Choko for sharing.
