As long as we're talking about the OST again, I wanted to say what I like about the music. It reminds me of that incidental pop music they used to play in movies in the 50s and 60s, like "Desk Set" or "Charade." Sort of loungy, sort of jazzy, sort of not. (I'm not talking about the WLS ones with vocals, which are sort of 80s pop; I'm talking about the incidental music, particularly that played for Yu-jin/Joon-sang's snow scenes, etc.) It's most appropriate and contributes to the sophisticated feel of the drama.

Posted by: momway Posted on: 02/07/2005 at 23:31:24 I live in the Northwest Suburbs and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get the soundtrack for this show. I really like the music, even though I don't understand the words! Thanks _____________________________________________ Hi momway - I just went on e-Bay, keyed in "Korean TV OST" and the CD you want is there by Silvershadow1234 in Hong Kong (New Jersey). It's not expensive, it has all the songs, and pictures and even maps. You go girl!!!!!

dear momway --- make friends with YESASIA ... they have just about everything. There's a WLS Classical disc as well ... just piano ... no vocals ... but here's the thing... it's part video as well. When I play it on a cd player it's fine... when I put it in my computer, I get this lovely videa, although brief ... of some delicious scenes from WLS. The problem though is that it plays for only a very brief time and then quits ... and doesn't continue with the music.
I had a friend at work take the disc home and he took the music off and made a separate disc so I can play it at work. I guess I'm not very computer literate to know about how some of these vcds work. I also have a delux set of Bae Yong Jun (Joonsang) ... but I can't get it to do anything when I put it in my computer. There are 2 discs - one silver, one gold ... and there's a booklet of BYJ in his various roles, both historic and contemporary..
so anyway, back to the short answer. Go to yesasia.com ... they're very nice to work with.
I have the OST too and just love it...

I don't have the OST but one classical piece sounded so familiar. Does anyone know what it was?

Moreshiga, can you say more about in which parts of the show you've heard the theme you seem to recognize? I have the piano music, and I've noticed that the music, while it was composed specially for the series, bears similarities to several classical composers, including both Bach and Chopin, if you can believe it (because they are dissimilar to each other).

OK, I've checked it out, and I don't see no maps. Where are they/is it to be found? I think I must have a different version of the OST after all, because there is no map in the accompanying booklet, and there is no extra video track on my CD (I hadn't played it on the computer until today).

Well, the funny thing is that I do know my classical music. (Yeah, Bach was Baroque and Chopin was from Romantic era. yada yada yada I'll have to go over the DVD and get back to you on which classical pieces in the drama reminds of something I heard before.

I suppose it's more evident in the piano music (sheet music). I'm not talking about a true correspondence between the WLS soundtrack and either Bach or Chopin, but there are things about certain pieces that sound like Chopin nocturnes, and things that sound like "pseudo-counterpoint" (it's just an effect, y'see, not true counterpoint) in others. I guess Ho Lee (the composer) was definitely classically trained, 'cause he's referencing all kinds of things in there.

ok Lucy - If you're talking about the one I sent you - it is not a vcd (like the Essential Volenvieter [probably not correct spelling] with the "Play of the 5 Pearls" cut); however, it should have two little arial maps in the booklet of the Dragon Plaza and Dragon Peak. It should also have pictures of scenes from the series and what those places look like now. I scanned the booklet and put all the pictures in that Picture CD I sent you - just in case. I will be disappointed for you if that CD did not have the same booklet I received.

Maybe they added the maps and such in a 'second editition' of the OST after WLS became such an international phenomenon.
I know the booklet that came with mine doesn't have that stuff.

Moreshige - I know one of the classical pieces too. It's the one that starts with the piano playing one note at a time and has oboes in it occasionally. Have you seen Trois Coleurs: Bleu? It's a French movie part of a series. It's the first movie, Blue, then there are White and Red. Anyway, that song played a prominent part in the movie - it was supposedly a song composed to commemorate entry into the EU. Google is my friend; I looked up the score from the movie and I think that the song is "Song For the Unification of Europe," by Zbigniew Preisner. But when I try to listen to it, it only plays the middle and the haunting one-note melody is in the beginning of the song only. And all online samples seem to have the same sample of the song. EDIT: If you go to this link and listen to "Reprise: First Appearance" the correct section of the song shows up. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000W4K/104-9596884-4813541?v=glance
