Shijo, a genre of Chosunese poem, has only 3 lines. Alexa. Sometimes I saw several Korean kids running around in a hypermarket, shouting "Bang-po-ha-ra!" ;D

I forgot Thanks for the info on the poem, Choko. It's those cultural things that westerners totally miss. It's beautiful.

wow that poem was so deep, three sentence's carrying such a powerful meaning. I can't believe there was such a human being then, his a warrior a philosopher and a poet and it seems a great human being. I wonder what other talents he had. I'm also glad that we are not the only nuts screaming is comforting that other people do it too. ;D lol YSY rules.

why is that poem so famous? I'm korean but I don't know that one...but I have a fair excuse--I only got 3rd and 4th grade schooling. but I know enough about the great man. He is one of the greatest men to have walked this earth. yet, he doesn't have the kudos he indupitably deserves. and raven, YS "Y" -_-;;

why is that poem so famous? Well, because the poem makes people understand how the great man was feeling as a human being? ;D Oh, does that mean you are now a 10 year old kid, or that you immigrated to the US when you were 10 year old? Anyway, I have to change my expression due to your comment. "It is a good way to distinguish a person with Korean nationality from others" If you mastered compulsory education (elementary and middle schools) in Korea, you could not help but know the poem.

No...born in korea, moved to US when I was 3, moved back for 3rd and 4th grade--the only grades I got korean schooling--, then moved back to US and lived here ever since. I love korea though and of course, the admiral.

I posted that famous poem on the IYSS tangents section under the haiku thread. Sorry I can't post the link right now

Thanks again, Choko, for your tireless translation activities. As you can see, we all appreciate it very much.
"no2guncontrol" I have deleted the repetitive posts as you wished. We welcome you to this board. I don't like to pick on people as soon as I see them, but I have a request. This board tries to be apolitical. We have our disagreements, but we are discussing Korean soaps and dramas here, not personal political agendas. As an American, of course, I fully support your right to your political viewpoint, but as moderator, I request that you choose a less incendiary sign-in name. People's political viewpoints do, of course, bubble up (and we try to keep those discussions in a polite vein), but there's no reason to throw down a gauntlet when a discussion hasn't even occurred.
Thank you.
Bo
