I have been in the north fighting the Jurchens (or is that working with the Bostonians?) Those barbarians don't have YSS on TV. So what happened? I saw the battle of Okpo. What happened after? What did Won Kyun do? I saw one episode where the king sent praise to YSS and warning to Won Kyun. At the end of the episode Won was facing the Japanese outnumbered at least 3 to 1. How did he get out of that?

Welcome back, Aging Warrior. I may be able to help a little, but my memory is a touch muddled, I think. Let's see....
After Okpo, Won Kyun ruthlessly cut down POWs. The Left Cholla commander who followed Won Kyun was punished by YSS. YSS was urged to send the Okpo report to the King citing Left Cholla leadership (as opposed to Left Cholla and Right Kyung-sang joint effort) so as to make solidarity under one commander (Won Kyun loose cannon, YSS preferred).
Won Kyun faced Japanese outnumbered and many wounded (Won Kyun unconscious), his navy forced from (that place where Nalbal comes from), they sail to Left Cholla base, YSS tells Constable Kwan to look after Kyun's Commanders, they are so disheartened, Won Kyun comes to, beats on his commanders for not dying, and orders everyone to take back (that place where Nalbal comes from), everyone knows it's suicide mission, Young-nam says so, Commander Han writes to YSS requsesting aid and YSS accepts.
Now current episodes, YSS almost killed by sharpshooter, bullet removed, turtle ship used (Japanese commander has a fit!), Japanese commander didn't listen to Dodo and pursued YSS much to the commander's detriment, is killed by Constable Kwan's arrow, YSS saved Won Kyun's navy from trouble.
Afterwards Kyun is disillusioned and keeps repeating that it was the Right Kyung-sang navy that had won the day, episode ends with another Left Cholla sea victory and then a counterattack, YSS doesn't want to go back to base but wants to continue along the southwest coast.
I hope this helps. Anyone feel free to correct me or add on to.

oh yeah, and Takadora Dodo (Todo) was disgraced after Okpo and now his mission is to defeat YSS before his own death. The Taiko (sp?, Hideyoshi - I mix up all the Japanese names) was at first not told of the defeat by his monk Jotai aka "Minister Moon" - I'm sure you'll appreciate such AOW references A.W. later the Taiko sent sharpshooters to use against YSS, also Dodo's right hand is YSS POW and a Christian like the leader of Constable Kwan's ninjas so he is now giving YSS information

Thanks Eowyn!
Poor Won Kyun. He should have stuck to fighting Bostonians...I mean Jurchens.

That's quite funny metaphor, Aging Warrior. Unconsciously I was looking up Chicago and Boston on a map of the American continent. It is quite sure that Boston is, to Chicago people, located in the Northeast. Hahaha. ;D

Eowyn, your memory is quite good. I added some information to your comments. At that time, military commanders in the East Asian region distinguished themselves in war by the number of their enemy's decapitated heads. So, Won Kyun was killing the Japanese POWs to get their heads. Won Kyun even brandished his sword at Officer Yi Un-ryang, YSS's subordinate, who was stopping Won Kyun from killing the POWs. Yi Un-ryang Shinichi vs. Gong Tae-won After the battle of Okpo, one of Todo Takatora's vassals was taken POW. His name is Shinichi and he was tortured by Nalbal's secret detectives including Gong Tae-won who was taken to Japan and became a Christian before the war. Yi Sun-shin forbade them from torturing and kindly asked Shinich how's his wife and children in Japan etc. YSS ordered Gong Tae-won to have a heart-to-heart talk with Shinich as a Christian. That changed Shinichi's mind. According to Louis Frois, Toyotomi Hideyoshi hated Christians so much that he sent them to the war in Chosun first of all. That explains why there existed about 10,000 Japanese defectors to Chosun during the war. The commander is Jung Wun, the captain of Nokdo. He was flogged not because he followed Won Kyun but because he disobeyed YSS's order and detached his fleet from the main battle formation. Won Kyun vs. Todo Takatora Won Kyun and Right Kyoung-sang navy were temporarily based in Gonyang village where is Nalbal's hometown. (You already know that young YSS, his master Namgung Du, and Mijin were also living there) Japanese troops, including Todo Takatora who was defeated by YSS in the battle of Okpo, attacked the village. Won Kyun stuck to land fighting like he did in several battles with Jurchens, but he failed again and fell in a faint. Yi Young-nam and a few soldiers saved his life and returned to Left Cholla naval base. It was the battle of Sacheon where the Turtle ships made their debut. The Japanese commander was Kurujima Michiyuki. He refused to listen to Todo Takatora's advice and even slapped Todo on the cheek. Finally he was shot to death by Constable Kwon Jun's arrow, as Eowyn explained.

The "secret" squad are not really ninjas. They are the Korean equivalent to Japanese Shinobis. Ninjas are primarily assassins with martial arts skills whereas Shinobis are spies with martial arts skills.

Thanks for the additional info Choko. It is quite sure that Boston is, to Chicago people, located in the Northeast. Hahaha. ;D I'm a New York person, so Chicago is more like Ming to me. Actually, I guess New York now is like Ming was then, being the center of the universe. Chicago would be whoever was west of Ming. By this analogy, Long Island is Chosun and Left Cholla navy base is in the Hamptons where all the beautiful people summer.
