www.thehistorynet.com/mhq/this issue of military history quarterly has a somewhat in-depth article of Yi Soon Shin. I fully recommend it. The magazine is available at Borders or magazine stores.

More info
when i last posted i was on my way to bed.
Anyway, I should be more specific.
the article is 9 pages long.
The Magazine has the letters "MHQ" in the upper left side.
It is a quarterly magazine and on the cover it says it will sell until Aug. 22, however once stores run out i don’t think they get a second shipment, so get yours as soon as possible.
Yi Soon Shin isn’t on the cover, the Sack of Jerusalem is. You’ll notice on the bottom left it says "The Hideyoshii Invasions and the Birth of a Korean Legend
plus what i think is neat, on the back of the mag is an artist painting of the Chosen Navy in action near Pusan.
And finally I should mention that about 2 times in the article it uses actual excerpts of Yi Soon Shins own reports to the court to describe the battles.
All in all it is a really great article.
The magazine is $10, but it is a quarterly magazine and quite thick.

Maybe Barns & Noble?
look at book stores, but they should have it at magazine stands.

I bought a copy of the magazine, and particularly found the map usefull.
I'm not a military history buff, but I thought the rest of the articles look interesting, too.

People, I seriously need help. I'm searching all over for this magazine, and I can't seem to find it. I can't order online. Don't have a credit card. I tried typing in the title in Barnes and Nobles, and the only thing I get is a collection of American military generals. HELP, PLEASE! Where can I find the magazine in New York?

"the dummie" (stop calling yourself that you silly thing, unless you're Won Kyun- LOL), you usually can order a back issue (or current issue) of a magazine by sending in a check or money order. I got this from their "contact us" page: "BACK ISSUES To order back issues of one of our Primedia History Group magazines, go to TheHistoryNetShop.com or call 1-800-358-6327." page at: www.thehistorynet.com/contact/index.htmlSo, call them, and ask them if they can help you on this. At least, they should be able to tell you where to find it in New York. When you call, be sure you have the information in front of you as to the particular magazine and issue you require--it looks to me to be the Summer 2005 issue of MHQ magazine. Bo

I don't think you can order online from Barnes and Nobel for a magazine. Just books and such. Check out wich one is closest and stop by. Here the local New York listing from the Yellow Pages: B&N listing Or as Bo said wait and back order by check or money order. I saw a large listing of book stores in New York. I'd call a few to see if they have this and ask them to hold a copy for you. When you call ask for HMQ I called Borders and I think the whole name confuses the clerks. Walden Books in the HIP has it. I'm stopping by Friday.

Thanks, Frederick II-I just bought the MHQ mag. The photo of YSS's statue shows a small model of the turtle ship, too.

dummie
I am really sorry you are having such bad luck.
when you ask for the magazine make sure you have them search under "MHQ" as well as "Military History Quarterly" just to be sure.
If you cant find it just order is as a back issue. Call ask them how much and send a check or money order (including the issue number and description).
really though, check at magazine stands (if you know where one is) and I personally dont reccemond taking someones word over the phone.
It could be that Barns and noble doesnt carry it. In that case I suggest you follow what Bo said and call to find out where you can get it,

Everyone, thanks so much for your advice. I got the magazine today, and I immediately began reading. I FINALLY found it in a Borders store...something about the shipment being late. Although it was a very informative, enjoyable article, I really HATED how the author said, "Oh, but Yi Soon Shin's efforts were futile in the end," and he kept writing, "Oh, and the Koreans couldn't have done it without the Ming." I want to give that author a piece of my mind. It's like saying, "Oh, but George Washington couldn't do it without the French." No offense (I am a proud American citizen), but Yi Sun-Shin, unlike George Washington, won MANY HUGE victories BEFORE the Ming EVER came into the picture; George Washington only started winning after the French arrived. I also hate how the author fails to mention how Chen Lin tried to negotiate with the Japanease to split Chosun, but Yi Sun-Shin stopped it. Not only that, but this author seriously undermines Yi Sun-Shin's accomplishments. At the end, he says something like "Japan's fall was not due to one man's efforts alone-no matter how great they were." Yes, that's true, but Yi Sun-Shin played a VERY vital role in the Imjin War, and without him, Korea, and heck, maybe half of China, might not exist today. Had Won Kyun or any other commander for that matter been in charge of the Left Cholla Station, Chosun would have definitely fallen, and I'm sure Ming China would have suffered great losses as well. Anyone else agree?

Because it's interesting. The history of the World and Humankind's place in it is something that every person should have an awareness of. You have to know where you're coming from, if you want to know where you're going.
