1. Actor Choi Cheol-ho, playing King Sun-jo, is going to marry on August 7th, 2005. His bride is a piano teacher and 12 years younger than him. WoW... Congratulation! ;D 2. Actress Choi Yu-jeong, playing YSS's wife, retired from the entertainment world. She got married on March and is now pregnant. (That's why you guys can not see her nowadays ;D ) Recently, she shot her last scene (in ep. 90) and said that she would retire to live for her family. 3. IYSS registered the highest TV popularity ratings in South Korea for 6 consecutive weekends. Last weekend, ep. 91~92 was aired. (It has total 104 episodes) 4. A few days ago, I said that Empress Myoung-sung would replace IYSS from September, but some Korean newspapers reported that KBS is seriously considering broadcasting a series of foreign documentary films instead of Empress Myoung-sung. Umm... nobody knows what will replace IYSS as of now.

Hmm, I think the King looks alot better with the beard. Actually to me most of the Koreans actors that have the mustache and beards on the dramas, look better like that, then without it. They need to bring that style back ;D

^Yi-Sun-Shin is a national hero to both Coreas. The respect given to him from both countries is astounding.

My daughter refers to Yi Soon Shin as the " George Washington of Korea". He is a major hero in her eyes now and she told me he's in her "Top Ten" list of all-time great men. Cute, huh?
BTW, we are a mixed 1st generation/3rd generation European family, not Korean. Proof that this story crosses ethnic/linguistic/ racial differences, appeals to children as well as adults, and teaches respect and admiration for other races/cultures. It also demonstrates the power of great film to teach values that are eternal and universal. We all need heroes--everyone needs a little more of the likes of YSS in their lives and a lot less (or NO)Snoop Dog! :)

Oh, I think there's room for Snoop Dog. My theory is, give them exposure to good and bad (not too bad, LOL) so they have a chance to develop good taste, and discuss it with them so they understand your thinking on the matter. But it's only a theory, not having anyone to "practice" on, lol.
How old did you say your daughter was, BD? I think 10? I love them when they're that age, so inquisitive and serious about everything.

George Washington? George Washington flails in comparism to Admiral Yi. 23 battles and no defeats, that is a battle record unheard of in naval warfare.

Well, if you're going to be picky, Cool, George Washington is a land general and YSS is a sea admiral, so GW couldn't very well have won any naval battles.
However, I think BD's daughter is referring to YSS's status as a leader of men, and certainly, in our national mythology, GW holds the romantic lead as the greatest military leader of men ever. I open the floor to nominations. I'm not comparing actual records here, people, but legendary status. 'Cause I know you've had the other discussion over in YSS Tangents, LOL.

My kid isn't measuring who is the greater warrior but rather she's looking at the character of the man. BTW, a window into Washington's character can be found in his book "Rules of Civility".

There's no clear evidence that these two's characteristics are similar. And the situation was different, Admiral Yi was fighting for a country that another was trying to save. Washington was just trying to make it independent.

Washington was just trying to make it independent. Fighting for independence from invading forces suit both men. Don't you mean they both were involved in the same situations but different circumstances? Anyway, although people acknowledge Washington's military accomplishments, he's viewed very differently concerning his personal life(slaves, growing marijuana, bad teeth, etc.) and people confuse the two a lot. I don't think anyone knows about YSS personal life and solely concentrate on his military success. But if someone really dug up some things I'm sure YSS personal life would shock some people.
