Since so many of you probably don't understand you are looking at a BS, here is my little FAQ to sort things out.
Q1: Is this drama a real history?
A1: Nope. This is a fiction. This drama is based on two fictions written about Yee Soon Shin and even lists that in the beginning. In fact, this drama is constantly blasted for "distorting" history even in Korea.
Q2: What is real then?
A2: All the major battles featured in the series. Yee Soon Shin does have a 23:0 battle record against Japanese fleet and sent tens of thousands of Japanese troops to bottom of sea which made him the legendary figure that he is today, but everything else is a fiction. There simply isn't enough record about him to describe his personal life other than his own diary, in which he says little about himself.
Q3: Was Yee Soon Shin a great swordsman that he was portrayed as in the drama?
A3: Nope. Yee Soon Shin even failed the military exam twice before finally making it the third time(barely), which suggests his personal martial art skill was poor. If he was actually a great and brave warrior, then he wouldn't have become the legend that he is today.
Q4: Who is Mijin?
A4: Mijin is a fictional character. Didn't exist in history. Yee Soon Shin was married at 18.
Q5: Were Wakizaka Yasuhiru and Yee Soon Shin fierce life-time rivals as portrayed in drama?
A5 : Nope. Wakizaka and Yee Soon Shin never met in face to face. Wakizaka didn't even know the man who sank his fleet.
Q6: Were Won Gyun and Yee Soon Shin close friends since childhood?
A6: Nope. They hated and accused each other of stealing their own battle credits. They were bitter rivals in actual history.
Hope this clears your confusion....
