Go out, and, well, do something better for the world, than pissing us off. ID, I think you're being a little rude here. Even though the faux/guest "aging warrior" posted under someone else's name (and yes, that's a no-no, please be careful about that), their post was not crass or disruptive in any way. I know we've had trouble with people posting under guest names in the past, but this person was not rude in the post to which you are responding. Please differentiate between crude behaviour and a simple faux pas, and don't be so quick to jump on others. I think Aging Warrior's response was sufficient and appropriate. Bo

Please forgive me... I'm quite new to this CKDFC... took a long time for my sign-in info to work right. I do apologize for addressing someone with an incorrect name... it's just that I thought when 'replying' I was supposed to put THEIR name there.
so when it says 'NAME, who should I put there? I once put myown name and received an error message. I would never do anything to offend someone on this sight. I so respect the stories and feel badly that I've done something very wrong.
Kathleen

I'm sorry you got caught up in other people's jumping to conclusions. See, this is why I want you guys to be a little less judgmental. Kathleen did this by accident and through a misunderstanding. I want to see some apologies here. Kathleen, when you are a guest, you should put your name and then something like, "Kathleen off line" or "Kathleen unlogged" just so we know who you are. You may have gotten the error message because it won't let you use a member's EXACT name (you used no caps in aging warrior, but he does), so it won't let you sign in as your own EXACT name (it doesn't know it's you, LOL), but a variation will work. Bo PS = Kathleen, what does "CKDFC" mean? Is that yet another internet thingie I just don't "get"?

This is my first time posting to the forum and I am impressed with the civility shown by the users. I have watched Korean drama for about 10 years and love it,particularly the historical drama.
Thanks to florel and this wonderful discussion about the hats. I'm a homeschooler and am teaching the Middle Ages this year. I use these dramas as part of my curriculum. Any knowledge shared is greatly appreciated.
My sister is a Shakespearean actress living in London for the past 25 years and I have to say that the performances rendered in these dramas are on par with anything in British classical theatre today. The actors are amazing.
My husband is multi-lingual (Slavic languages) and enjoys listening to the Korean. Thank God these programs are not dubbed. We would be missing so much.
Thanks again, everyone.

This is my first time posting to the forum and I am impressed with the civility shown by the users.... And welcome to you, Bungalow Dweller. Were you able, by chance, to see Dae Jang-geum? It was a wonderful history drama. Bo

Yes! I have to say however that my favorite is Yi Soon Shin. His integrity, courage and great heart is an inspiration. Also his travails in taking the exam closely mirror my husband's life growing up behind the Iron Curtain. If you weren't in the Communist Party you were out of luck. Doomed really.

If you weren't in the Communist Party you were out of luck.. So, your husband was Eastern European? Er, is--no, was! (umph) Do you live in the Chicago area and get PBS Channel 20? I frequently watch shows on that channel about communist China, particularly the peasantry (really, the villagers and farmers). I've learned so much about how people learn to think in those situations; they are fooled into thinking that all that is good springs from the Party, even when they have clear evidence that it's their own hard work and traditions that see them through. Most interesting. Also, I love channel 20 because they have immersion language "classes" in Spanish and French (and probably other languages) and other TV university classes. It's a valuable resource. Bo

first, thank you all for the kind words and making me feel less than a duffus. Can you tell me what those messages are about that say "are you trying to kill me?..."
Secondly, CKDFC" is the initals for the Chicago Korean Drama Fan Club.. Skinz was correct. Life is an accronym.
thanks again everyone .. you're good teachers... now then, about the beads that are attached to the Aristocratic hats... their color and size... does it mean something cool? I can't believe it would just be a dorky fashion statement.
Thanks.

AW : Finally, I watched "that episode" concerning hat problem.
Chun-soo's new black hat signifies his social promotion into a middle class. He has entered also in adult age, of course.
In this episode, Chun-soo's hat is in contrast with the bamboo hat of YSS. Black horsehair hat is only permitted to the aristocrats and middle classe while bamboo hats are worn by the common people.
YSS wears rarely his hat before he passes the examinations even if he has the privilege to wear an aristocratic hat. I think this symbolizes his economic and social situation.

I would never do anything to offend someone on this sight. I so respect the stories and feel badly that I've done something very wrong. No problem Kathleen. I wasn't sure how the sign-in worked when I started either. Welcome to the board and enjoy the show. Agind Warrior : Finally, I have watched "that episode" concerning hat problem.
