Episode 7:
i have never heard of a person named chun soo mentioned in either Yi's war diaries or his memorials to court. it is also highly unlikely that they were friends as they were from completely different social classes

Episode 5:
There is no record of Yi removing his body armor in the last moments of his life. This was a dramatic device employed by the writers to make his death more exciting and perhaps more symbolic than death from a stray bullet.
the admiral's last order before dying before his nephew wan was that no one should know of his death until victory was won

Episode 1-4:
Yi Young Nam, Yi Sun Shin, Kwon Jun, Hwang se Tuk, Song Hui Rip, Woo Chi Juk, and Kim wan were all real historical figures.
in fact, in one of his last memorials to court, you can read about Yi Soon Shin asking why Yi Sun Shin did not receive a promotion for his excellant work during the war

Episode 5:
There is no evidence to support that Yi Soon Shin, Won Kyun and Yu Song Ryong were childhood friends.
in fact, the Won Kyun that admiral Yi wrote about in his diaries was a despicable man who the admiral did not understand or like

Episode 2:
The King at the time WAS in fact a suspicious, fickle, Myongjong like character
(and ironically enough, the one on this series has a big nose too!)

what about nahl bahl? i think he is great. what would a k-drama be without a big-nosed king/emperor?

Episode 1-4:
There is no mention of a sword wielding body guard (and if he saved his life as many times as he did on the drama, you'd think that would warrant a mention at least, no?)

there is no way YSS would not have mentioned nahl bahl if he were a real person....no way at all. a bit disappointing but i like him tons anyway. i am thrilled that the others you named yi young nam, etc. are real. should i delete my posts so the thread stays 'clean'? just let me know.

Who is Won Kyun in the first few episodes? Is he the old-looking minister who hates the Admiral?

won kyun is the future commander of the RIGHT cholla naval station. yi soon shin was commander of the left. won kyun was yi soon shin's archenemy and was the cause of much grief for the admiral
he has not yet been introduced in episodes 1-4
we meet him as a little boy in episode 5

Question for VIB: Was Won Kyun close in age to Yi in the real history?

Wow, so did Won Kyun get punished for losing almost the entire Chosun navy (before Yi got reinstated)?

In a way, its sad that he died that way. Even though he was a "bad guy" in the way he tried to ruin Admiral Yi, he was still a patriot that died fighting for his country. I cant wait for him to appear in the series. Thanks for the info, VIB. You are an invalubale source of knowledge for this forum!
