but keep in mind that korea is like god knows how many hours ahead, so if you wait until friday night, i am pretty sure no one over there will be watching so you should be good unless you can watch it at like 8 in the morning

how will you understand what is going on? Well I won't, but I just want to see how those action scenes in the trailer play out...I mean those boat battles and that scene you mentioned with the scores of extras storming the beach, that I think will be worth seeing even if I can't understand the dialogue!

i think the beginning will start out with the admiral as a young boy.
unless this is like richard attenborough's ghandi where you see the end first and then start at the beginning

I don't think they will show the very end of the story but I am betting they will stick in a boat battle in the beginning and then go back, just to get people excited about what's coming up in future episodes.

yup.
The first 4 episodes will have the very last battle of the war to get everyone hyped up and the show will actually begin with the admiral's childhood in episode 5 and on. I've been waiting to see this one for almost half a year now and I'm so excited that September is finally here!

i suppose it makes sense that they would start at the end since people know the history it's not like the ending will be spoilt by telling the end first i just hope that they don't put all the best stuff at the beginning! also, i wonder how this will be perceived by american fans who may not know too much about the admiral and his struggles. the battle scenes will be exciting yes, but will they be as sympathetic to yi soon shin as they would have been with his past established? in any case, i can't wait - it's going to be monumental. and i've been waiting for this show for a half year too so it's about time!

What's so sympathetic to his character? Please enlighten me. I think if the development of the character is good, then they should be no problem with american fans. Plus, they are going to start the character when his was a child, so people will get to know him more. For example, the archfiend Yi Ui Min is loved by many AOW fans becasue we knew him most.

but that's exactly my point
a fellow fan said that the first 4 episodes will begin with the last great battle of the war.
if they start off with the final battle, there is no time for character development
this is not a problem for the korean viewers as they are well versed in the history of yi soon shin's life. but for american viewers who know very little about him, the battle may be exciting to watch, but it's kinda like going to a basketball game and not knowing who to root for
as for what makes the admiral sympathetic, i put up a thread that has nformation about his life.
basically, he is one of koreans most beloved if not THE most beloved hero. what we know of him is taken from his writings in his war diary and his memorials to court but they paint a portrait of a man who was of impeccable moral standing, brave, quick-witted and determined. because he refused to hobnob with nobles and such he almost went unnoticed early but others pushed to get him noticed. he rose in success so quickly and staunchly refused to give up on his moral code he incurred many enemies both in japan and within the korean imperial court. though this caused him to be stripped of his rank and publicly humiliated, the public knew of his good character and wept on the streets when he was paraded in an ox cart on his way to prison
then of course there is the record of decimating the entire japanese navy sent to cheosun with only a handful of ships
and if you know about korea's history, you know how he died. that in and of itself was remarkable
i guess the best way to analogize his importance to koreans is to liken him to ghandi (i know i am repeating myself).
his diaries and memorials revealed his worries about the responsibilities he held as well as the frustration from the constant scheming of jealous officials and officers. but in the end, he always did what needed to be done.
this drama will focus more on these aspects - his human qualities, frailties and flaws as well as his heroic side to paint a more realistic picture of the admiral (which i think makes him all the more admirable)

The Admirable Admiral I'm glad to hear that the AOW Crown Prince #2 will be in Yi Sunshin. I like to watch his acting. I also like his voice.

Two more days 'till Korean preimere! Here's some pics of Kim Myung-min, who will be playing the Admiral. He was In-chul in the KBS drama "More Beautiful Than A Flower". Chillin' with "Bodyguard" hottie Han Go-eun:

hm,
i love him in the period costume and beard (and that big sword) but the modern kim myung min really doesn't do it for me.
well that's okay, it's the yi soon shin character i like not the actor (as always is the case)
nice pics though mace!
