EPISODE 3:
"Admiral Yi Soon Shin! Receive the order of the King!"
Seated in his conference room surrounded by his staff, the investigator from the capital city questioned the admiral. "The Ming navy suffered the loss of thousands of men "
"The Chinese did not keep their promise. That was no fault of ours," Kim Wan pointed out.
"Listen to what the investigator is saying!" the investigator's aide interrupted.
" " Kim continued, only to be shushed by a warning nudge from Song Hui Rip. "A person can't even speak his mind..." he muttered under his breath.
" " the investigator continued
Yi Young Nam stepped forward to defend the admiral. "Under the admiral's command the Chosun navy has never once lost a battle," he said heatedly. "How can you defend the Chinese?"
" " the second investigator replied
"WHAT?!!!" Woo Chi Juk burst out.
"So, you intend to defy the imperial decree?"
Angered beyond belief, Woo drew his sword, as did the investigator's staff, but they were stayed by the admiral. "That's enough!" he said rising to his feet, and he left the conference hall.
After the meeting had concluded, still in the conference room, Yi's men grumbled over the recent turn of events.
"They are all... What? They cannot trust the Admiral's loyalty? They believe Yu Jeong?" Song Hui Rip said in an indignant tone. "No, I will never submit to their orders! Even if it means death!"
"That is not the real problem," Yi Sun Shin answered. " "
"Yeah that's true," Kim Wan joined in. "Killing the wae nom is important but we have to look ahead as well."
Yi Young Nam glowered at him from under his brows. "What the hell kind of talk is that?" he demanded. " !"
" " Yi Sun Shin broke in
" " Woo Chi Juk countered
They were silenced by the sound of Kwon Joon pounding his fist on the table. "Enough of this behavior!"

On the archery range, Admiral Yi attempted to distract himself from his worries by engaging in some target practice, but the voices of the king and his investigator echoed in his head.
" "
" "
So lost in thought was he that his last arrow scratched his face as it left his bow. Nahl Bahl watched the thin line of blood slowly appear on the admiral's cheek
"I, Yi Soon Shin, will accept " Yi thought to himself.

Walking with Yoshida, Konishi Yukinaga mused, " We should send Yi Soon Shin a very special present." He gave Yoshida a sardonic smile.
Outside, the prisoners of war from the last battle were awaiting their fate. One samurai officer drew his sword and shouted, "You should blame Yi Soon Shin for your defeat!"
Suh Goon Gan, the images of Hwang se tuk's death still vivid in his mind, turned a spiteful eye at the samurai. "What? Blame Yi Soon Shin? You think that even if we died, we would blame him? My only regret is that i cannot kill you right here and right now!"
The samurai raised his sword to strike him down but Yoshida halted him. "No," he explained. "This one will be useful to us." This did not stop the samurai from killing the prisoners immediately next to Suh Goon Gyun. When the Japanese soldier walked in front of him, his sword drawn, he cried, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and kill me!"
"Wait!" Yoshida stood up. "We require a gift for Yi Soon Shin. Spare this one."
"No! No, kill me!" Suh Goon Gan shouted. The other prisoners joined in his shouts. They were all granted their wish - except for Goon Gan who was forced to watch, screaming as his countrymen were hacked to death.

At Yoo Do, soldiers were interrupted by the sound of commotion on the shoreline. Running to see what had happened, their eyes were greeted by a disheveled Suh Goon Gan, bound and gagged being helped off a ragged boat along with some crates. Woo Sang recognized him and fell to his knees in front of him. Some of the other soldiers looked inside the box and felt revulsion when they discovered it contained the severed heads of those who had attempted to rescue Chen Lien. "How can this be..." they lamented over and over.
Suh Goon Gan staggered to his feet, his shirt falling off his shoulder. Through the tattered fabric, the men could see the lash marks that coursed along his back. Goon Gan stopped in his tracks when he saw the grey haired man that Young Nam had attempted to console at the winehouse. His dry, cracked lips parted as he whispered, "Ah buh ji...(father)"
The old man stood rooted to the spot as if he did not believe what he was seeing. Then he flew into a rage and falling upon his son, he proceeded to beat him. "Why are you still alive?" he berated his son. "Why did you not die with the others? Why do you cry? Why? Why? Why?" When he saw the weary look on his son's face, he stopped beating him and after wringing his hands, walked away. Goon gan sank to the ground.
The soldiers bowed suddenly as admiral yi made his way through. The admiral simply stared at Goon Gan in silence. Young Nam looked at him sadly and said, "Suh Goon Gan has returned. I will take him to receive care."
The other soldiers began the sad task of burying the remains of Konishi's "gift". They burned the heads and then buried the ashes in the traditional mound grave. As they patted the ground down with their straw sandals, Young Nam turned his face away, unable to watch any further. Yi Soon SHin observed his young officer's reaction.
Later, when all had left, Yi knelt alone in front of the grave in the pouring rain. Running a hand sorrowfully over the earth, he thought to himself, "Please give me the strength to do what needs to be done. I will not allow the spilt blood of the Chosun people to go unavenged."
In his conference hall, Yi waited for the investigator's arrival. Kwon Jun announced him. "Please sit," he told him.
After he had seated himself, the investigator said in a consoling voice, "An utterly unfortunate series of events! Admiral, please release the Japanese prisoners, and bring an end to this bloodshed."
Yi could not believe what he had heard. "Returning the soldiers will only cause more bloodshed," Yi replied ominously.
" "
" "
"Admiral, ,,,please accept the king's order. "
" "
" " the investigator pushed. This angered Yi so much that he had to clench his robes in his fists in order to bite his tongue. " " he continued.
" " Yi shouted angrily, rising to his feet.
The investigor stood up as well. " " And upon saying those words, he took his leave. Once outside, he whispered to his aid, " "
the messengers meet with two of Yi's men to try and convince them to persuade the admiral to listen. Yi Sun Shin (his staff officer) comes in and sees them and sits down to talk.
Yi has a conversation with kwon jun over some wine. Kown jun tells him to be careful as the messengers are trying to stir up trouble among his men. Yi says, we just se what we want to see and hear what we want to hear and that is how we will get by
at the palace, the two ministers and the eunuch are still plotting on how to best bring down yi soon shin
the king is talking with yu song ryong and asks him what he would do if he were king. yu asks the king to put his faith in the admiral and not forsake him but the king tells him to stop supporting yi or he will be the worse for it as well
Yoshida talks again with yu jeong about their secret plans to open the sea route and to bring down yi soon shin
Song won (the returned POW)tries to tell his father that he tried to die that he did not want to live but that he could not die. his father does not look at him and says in disgust that he is a man with no son.
Yi Young Nam is sitting on the beach alone trying to get drunk, thinking on all the men who died in the war. Sung Goon comes up to him and tries to take the bottle away. Yi Young nam tells him don't think you are going to fight.
