Scarcely have we had time to digest the killing of Yi-ko, and we lose General Che, also. But, he sure went down swinging!
To get this show going, though, one of the baddies is going to have to step up and be truly vile. For example, the Empress Dowager should be as nasty as the one in DOTE. I mean, Ui-bang is going to fight a bunch of eunuchs??!! Why, they don't have the, er, guts to stand up to him!

I'm late with this reply, but I'm new to this website. I agree. When will someone stand up to Ui Bang? I like his character, but I would like to see someone stand up to him. I'm expecting the emperor to began taking a stand on issue's. It seems like he is slowly learning how to rule. One thing for sure, each episode has a unique agenda

My Korean history book "spoils" it with a sentance or two. But, even though I know what happens, I trust that the dramatization will make it much more interesting.
That's one thing I admire about these historical dramas. If they take liberties with the facts for the sake of a good story, they fess up to it, and explain what the record says, and why they presented it as they did.

Korea - Traditions and Transformation, by Andrew C. Nahm, Hollym International Corp. (pub.) 1988, 1996 ISBN 1-56591-070-2
I picked it up at the Korean Book Store, on Lincoln Ave., (just South of Mather High School). There is a selection of English language books, in the Northwest corner of the store.

Thanks for the links and the info about the book. I also liked both of the departed generals and can't believe who will be joining them according to the spoiler link. I also like that the show is fair about telling where the drama is different than the historical record. How do you think it measures up to the other historical dramas? I like it far better than Dawn of the Empire, but don't feel it has the depth of Emperor Wang Guhn, but it's almost as compelling. Thanks again for the info!

Hi Ken -- from my vantage point, "Emperor Wang Guhn" was a bases-loaded home-run, clearly a grade A series. I absolutely loved it.
"Dawn of the Empire" was okay but nothing special (you're right, not nearly as much depth as EWG) maybe a grade C at best.
"Age of Warriors" so far for me at least, is a bit better than DOTE, but still a little disappointing compared to EWG (I guess you can't hit a home run every time, right?). Maybe a grade B-, but of course, AOW is still developing, so final judgement still awaits.

Well, I absolutely loved, "Dawn of the Empire." I only caught the last 7 episodes of "Emperor Wang Guhn" and so I was very disappointed when it went off. But that's when I found "Dawn of the Empire." I'm sort of knew to KBC TV, and I obviously have been missing some good series. I'm loving "Age of the Warriors" too. I just want to see someone put Muby in her place. Off with her head, something!!! She's running the show with the power of her words.... I love her ;D and hate her . She's just that good. What's going on with General Yi and his past secrets? I like him too! Ahh, I just like everything on this station JP: I checked out the site, but then I changed my mind while I was reading it. I'll probably peek at it on and off during the season. Thanks...

Soju: Yes, I like the way they have occasional explainations of what the historical record actually said. That is very different from most historical dramas, like Braveheart, which really played fast and loose with the truth.
Mickey: One thing which I think is really improved in Warriors from the earlier series is the camera work- really beautiful photography and composition. Some of the fight scenes, however, seem less real, more kung fu movie fantasy. That stuff was more believable in the earlier shows. (that bit where Ui Min and one of the others were fighting to decide whether the other guy would return with Ui Min was downright silly, where they played catch with a 500 lb boulder till they got bored, and then wrestled for 6 hours.)

Yes, you're absolutely right about the fight scenes. In Wang Guhn, the battles were sometimes truly horrific -- but that only added to the realism. But, as you said, the trend towards "Kung Fu" style showmanship (and that foolish boulder-lifting competition) detracts some from the overall presentation. Not awful, really -- just a little distracting.

Mikey-
I read your reaction to Emperor Wang Guhn on one of the other threads as well and agree with you, though I'd give Age of Warriors a higher grade.
I thought the boulder scene was pretty funny and some of the fight scenes are well done, though they're not as good as the ones in Emperor Wang Guhn. JoyJoy, I'm really sorry you only saw the last 7 episodes of EWG - it was such an amazing show!
