Last night (Saturday) my wife and I were looking at this game show on ch. 28. It involved a line of five people (four men in formal attire, with a woman in the center) sitting with their backs to a swimming pool. The guy at the right end was in a spring-loaded chair which would fling him about five feet into the air and backwards into the pool every couple minutes. The guy at the left end (and also the #2 guy, my wife thinks) had a chair which would tip over backwards from time to time, dunking him in the pool. All of the guys were also sitting under hoses which would spray them with powerful streams of water every minute or so. The woman in the middle was the only one who was not systematically getting drenched.
We tried to figure out the object and rules of this game, if it was a game in the conventional sense, and had absolutely no success. Questions would appear on the screen, and then other Korean text, and meanwhile the woman and the men would have a conversation. But we couldn't figure out any relationship between the text on the screen and the conversation, or between either of these and who got sprayed or thrown into the swimming pool. We weren't even sure whether there was anything that the guys could do to avoid being sprayed or thrown into the swimming pool, or whether they were even trying to avoid it. The guy at the right end, who was repeatedly being hurled through the air into the pool and dragging himself back on shore to be hurled in again, seemed maniacally gleeful throughout. I don't know who won or if there were any winners.
Basically we came away from this experience with feelings of great curiosity.

Hi HumbleStudent,
I don't know the title but I watched the game show that you are describing. There are several phases to the show but the part with the swimming pool is the most hilarious, in my opinion. The four men are regulars on the show and the guest in usually the female sitting in middle. Each man is designated a certain word/phrase and gesture, unbeknownst to the men as well as the guest. During the conversation, if the guest says a word or makes a gesture that was assigned to one of the men, then that particular man either gets dunked into the pool or sprayed with water. Of course the men quickly pick up on what the words and gestures are and they try to get he guest to say those words to get the others dunked. For example, guy #2 knows that guy#3's word is "no" so guy #2 asks the guest a question to make her say "no". In the end, the guest picks one man as the "winner".
I don't know if you've seen "Happy Together" but this is a funnier show. In the second part of the show, the object of the game is to listen to a song once and then the five members (2 regulars and 3 guests) must sing the song. There are huge trays hanging above their heads and if they mess up on the lyrics or the melody, the trays come down pretty hard. If they are successful in ten tries, then the show donates money to a scholarship fund, but if they are unsuccessful, the guests mush contribute their own money to the fund. I once saw the cast of Yellow Hankerchief (the actors who play Jayoung, Minjoo, and Sangmin) appear on the show. Minjoo was very good but Sangmin kept messing up.

Oh........NOW it makes sense.............I had seen that show too and wondered what POSSIBLE explanation there could be for those guys getting drenched every 5 minutes. Thanks Whimsey!

When are these shows on? I checked the programming schedule and couldn't find anything. They sound pretty interesting! I think the the name of the show is, according to kbc28.tv, "Fun Sunday!" aired at 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. And when I watch that section of program I laugh from the start to finish too.

Thanks, Michael! I will definitely check that show out! I guess I should have been able to figure that out. As for the show Whimsey mentioned, Happy Together, the episode with the YH cast is available on KBC's Yellow Handkerchief site, but you need to be registered with them to watch VOD (it is the VOD with HOT flashing next to it). Soompi has Happy Together, but I don't think they have the ep. with the YH cast. It was very funny, and some might find it satisfying to see Sang Min repeatedly hit in the head with a cookie sheet! (that's what that tray looked like to me )

That's a good description, Whimsey. That section of the KBS 'Fun Sunday' show, with the guys being dunked in the water, is called 'Dangerous Invitation'. Yeah that's hilarious. I always watch that.
I watched one of the more recent 'Fun Sunday' shows and now they're all getting flung into the water (like the comedian Lee Hyuk Jae who sits to the far right of the screen).
Also, KBS Happy Together is a very good show. It's a shame though that the future of the show is in jeopardy since both hosts, Shin Dong Yup and Lee Hyori, are quitting the show.

Isn't this show called 'Super TV'? Whatever it's called, it's the greatest thing ever shown on television. Period. (In my opinion.)

Isn't this show called 'Super TV'? That's just a slogan like NBC's 'must see tv'.

Yes, “Happy Together” is a really wonderful show. Even though it’s not English subtitled, it’s simple enough for a non-Korean speaker to follow, and it’s just such a good, clean, fun and goofy show to watch. But, the host and hostess are truly the centerpieces of the show, and I can’t imagine how it can survive without them. What a shame!

I also can't imagine "Happy Together" without its current hosts. They complement each other perfectly too. I will really miss this show if it ends. I actually learned a few traditional songs.
Knov1, any idea when the hosts of "Happy Together" will quit the show?

I had just posted this earlier and I just found out that this week they filmed/shot their last show as hosts.
Shin Dong Yup (male host) decided to quit, not only Happy Together but all the other shows he hosts or participates in, because he wanted to take a long break from work for some much needed rest. He's basically the one that made the show popular so I'm sure KBS wasn't too happy that he decided to quit. Lee Hyori (female host) was brought on last year and she pretty much sent the ratings for the show through the roof. This girl is huge in Korea and basically any show she's on gets good ratings. She was actually gonna quit Happy Together back in May/June to focus on her solo album, which she released in August, but fans persuaded her to stay. Once Shin Dong Yup said he was quitting though, she decided to quit as well.

One question: are they wearing school uniforms?

One question: are they wearing school uniforms? Yes, those sure do look like Korean schoolboy/schoolgirl uniforms! I even seem to recall that, come winter, the girls get to change over from their white, short-sleeved summer blouses to their navy blue, long-sleeved winter blouses – just for an added touch of realism, I guess I for one like it. I think it’s all meant to be just part of the show’s overall goofy character.

haha .. we've gone completely off topic and started talking about Happy Together but just in case anyone is interested, this was posted yesterday but, I just read this at soompi. Yoo Jaesuk and Kim Jaedong got casted as the new MCs of KBS 'Happy Together'. Both are going to start appearing on November 6th after former MC's Shin Dongyup and Lee Hyori. Yoo Jaesuk got popular from MCing 'Mokpyo Dalsung Saturday' and 'Sunday is fun'. Kim Jaedong has a fresh appearance and voice that gives him the quality of being a good MC. translated by: sungie79 source: stoo.com Yoo Jaesuk is the skinny guy with the glasses from the KBS 'Fun Sunday' show. I know who Kim Jaedong is but I can't think of any show that he's worked on that KBC has given.
