Sheesh! I don't know what to tell ya, Bo-babe. Maybe MPC didn't even start, or maybe they are going to have an all-bad-singing-and-colon-cleansing programming extravaganza. Teeeeheeeee! They must be the healthiest gastro-intestinal people on the planet. At least I haven't seen the underwear add in a long time. That one was just this side of too tacky! GC

They apparently have a bulk package of underwear (like 20 pairs or something) that they're trying to sell you on an infomercial. They have all of the pairs lined up on mannequins and they keep saying how soft they are (I assume) and such. It's really weird and I'm glad they haven't been playing it.

That's not the same one as the commercial for what I call the Tube Sock Store, is it? Apparently this store has just a whole lot of tube socks. Oh wait, I read your note again and see that it's an infomercial. No, I never saw that one! It sounds weird, though.

...They have all of the pairs lined up on mannequins and they keep saying how soft they are... It's really weird and I'm glad they haven't been playing it. Oh, I remember that! It's quite disturbing, I always sat there with my mouth open and my forehead crunched up when it was on...oh, wait, I always look like that... Bo

For a relatively circumspect people, they sure don't have as much sense of appropriateness/taboo surrounding discussions of bodily functions as we do! I gather there was probably some on-air patting of mannequin crotches or butts (it's coming back to me now--I'm sure I must have seen it, but it was a long time ago, right?), and that commercial with "watch the realistically colored animated waste flow through the colon" is another example. [Sensitive Material Following:] Also, I saw an episode of an unsubtitled drama, and these two young guys were drunk and one of them got up in his sleep and peed on the furniture. The reason he did that, it seems, was that an older lady sleeping in the next room had woken up in the middle of the night to realize she had wet the bed, then she shamefacedly gathered up the soiled bedclothes, took them into the outside room, and put them in a corner next to the furniture. When the guy woke up and had to go, he stumbled around and apparently found some location that smelled like a bathroom, so there he went. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! It's interesting to me that you would see on the same channel what seems almost totally prudish sexual behavior and such openness about elimination. I don't think the two things are necessarily mutually exclusive, however, nor do I imagine that it has to be explained away by saying that the two dramas (MPC and its ilk, and the peeing drama) come from different Korean TV channels (which we know have different degrees of modernity/openness). I could see a culture where the two attitudes coexist--I wonder if it is like that in the real Korea?

My first show was tonight - it also has the mean grandma from OMR, the mean (rich) MIL from TBWY and some other people I recognize, but don't know if you in Chicago will.
So far, so good. I'm reserving judgement tho until I see it a few more times.
BTW, MPC was a disappointment to the end.

That's for sure! I was watching a children's program on TV one day and it was about....ummmm....flatulence..... and the ill effects of it's......fragrance?! I asked my husband if it was about what I thought it was and he said pretty much what you said...they aren't ashamed of their body functions. Then again, this is a society where it's ok to slurp your food. Melissa

i saw this episode of "drama city" where these kids had a peeing contest. and this other episode of the same series had this couple discussing *gasp* sex! (can i use that word on this board?) anyway, i think that mcp is very conservitive compared to what drama city was showing. i wish i could get other dramas from other korean networks.

I saw a commercial after MPC but before its previews and it was for this show. I guess they are probably going to it after MPC.

It's too bad we're not getting the one they're airing after YSS - somebody's Diary (Dae-li? I can't read it). It has the cutest intro, there is a girl in a bride outfit with bridesmaids, and they're all miming to "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" (that song from the 50s--I don't know the real name). It has a lot of the older ladies from other shows, and also the foster father from DJG. (He appears in the intro, too--at first, I thought it was an ad for skin cream, because that's how the bride girl looks).
I just hope we're not getting STIL or something again. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing Tender Hearts again sometime, just because I missed so much of it.

Update - I taped MPC this morning, and I just looked at the tape. They had a very long commercial afterward, about the Min-jae-ssi/Hyun-kyu-ah show, and it looks rather cute and fun. However, there was NO English shown (usually, they put some English in the title page to tell you the times it will air and the name of the show). I don't know if this is a bad sign, but KBC has been so...unresponsive...lately...

Oh, drat, that's an Abba song, not one from the 50s, isn't it. I am so happy I did not recognize an Abba song. Feb 14? But...it's April 28. And 8:25 pm? I'm confused. Bo
