Ok, ESM has been through a lot...losing her parents at a young age and then her brother. But the only reason why I'm against her at this moment is because of her personality. She acts like she's the boss. This woman has left her own family and lived her life wanting revenge. Then she's going to come back and expect things to go her way?! It's just the way that she treats HS and gets DD to go against her is the problem.

Aw c'mon, aren't you all being a little harsh on ESM? She's just being the person she always was--unappreciative, self-centered, manipulative, greedy, jealous. That ESM is a witch IMO. I personally think all our ill-feelings toward her character (not the actress) are well deserved. The actress is great because she portrays evil with an innocent mask on perfectly. Also, its not like her own parents pay that much attention to her being pregnant either. Did her own mother go to the doctor with her, get her fresh foods, maternity clothes, vitamins, etc? In Korea the man's family is thought to have higher status, but when it comes to taking care of pregnant women and babies, the woman's family usually provides some support too. Its a little odd that the mother who claims to have sacrificed her life for her family pays so little attention. I can't argue w/you on that one. It's true. You'd think she'd spend more time doting on her pregnant daughter, but I guess part of it is the mentality that Hesoo now belongs to her husband's family. And what's this deal with ESM's argument that Jinkook used to be such an obedient son before he met Hesoo? That is such a lie! He used to go out whenever he wanted, do whatever he wanted, and it wasn't even until recently (and because of Hesoo) that he turned into what they consider a good son. His father is such a moron.

I disagree, in part. I think what we're really objecting to is something that's a facet that we haven't seen before, namely her having it in for Hee-soo and no one else. She's being decent to her formerly hated stepson and to her husband, who she's blamed for her parents' death all those years, and yet Hee-soo gets reamed whatever she does (and blamed for stuff that isn't her fault, especially stuff involving Jin-kook's behavior). I think we won't ever expect her to be nice--and we wouldn't trust her if she did--but this making Hee-soo's life a living hell is a new, cruel twist for her. And the strange thing is, I don't even think she realizes she's doing it much of the time.

That made me so mad! I was like, what are they smoking in that little bedroom? These two are disgusting, there's no other word to describe them. I've noticed that DD's character is acting like a big dumb ape with his facial expressions lately. It's irritating. I expect every one of their scenes to start with him checking ESM's hair for ticks and lice.

No, please, Jenny! LOL It's hard enough to imagine anything they might get up to in that bedroom, but if it also involves grooming and nitpicking, I don't think I can take it.

I'm sure the ESM remembers Jinkook wasn't the perfect stepson and that she knows she's using the techniques she perfected on Jinkook to discredit Hee-soo (in everyone's eyes). ESM lived most of her adult life plotting revenge against the family she believed killed her parents. Manipulation, duplicity, and protecting her interests are her habits of existance. I don't believe she's really being nice to anyone or that she ever changed her heart. She merely reassessed her position. It's all a facade so she can hatch another evil plan. Hopefully the writers will let her have what's coming to her so she can have a true change of heart.

Hey, Taebimama , excellent interpretation. I hadn't thought of it that way. I'm not sure if I agree that she's hatching another plan, but it's not that improbable, now that I think about it.

That is a good theory!
I mean there are a few reasons why she would want to discredit Heesoo. First, Heesoo rightly deserves the credit for mending the family back together after ESM pulled her little thieving bit. And if she received credit for that, she would be the head female instead of ESM. Also, Jinkook is not in a greater position of power since he's more in control of the company and the family's finances (except for the buildings) as evidenced by his father's whining to give him the gold because he doesn't have anything else. So, she needs to mitigate his power so that the older generation is still superior to the younger generation.
Also, she's a little witch with some misplaced sense of self-entitlement. I can't wait until she's put into her place - if the writers don't do that then I will seriously have a hissy fit.
