HE called her "DANG-SHIN"when he first entered the kitchen after jung-hee told him she was there and again when she was in the yard after she threw the sushi at JH. Isn't "Dang-shin" like an affectionate word kind of like darling, honey, sweetie? If so, Eun-soo definitely has some feelings left for Young-lan...unless it means something else? I hoped that Jung-hee would be around to hear Eun-soo call Young-lan that! About "Dang-shin," remember the drama "The Phoenix"? It was in the earlier episodes after Seo-hoon aka Will and Ji-eun got married and it was the morning after. Seo-hoon was cooking breakfast and Ji-eun was overjoyed that she was married to him and called him, "Yobo." He responded with "Dang-shin."

lovely I asked this question on another fan board of which I am also a member since I did not get an answer here, that board has a lot of korean speakers and I got an answer right away.
Hmm...good question.
Well, this is what i think. You can practically say 'dang shin' to anybody as far as i know...it can be interpreted in two different ways. It can be said by married couples or to people that you are enemies/friends/rivalries...etc with, as far as i know. Most young couples call each other by names. Some females would call their husbands 'oppah' aka 'big brother'...coz i guess that's more comfortable to them. So yeah 'dang shin' can be used in many ways.

"tang-shin" is used respectfully to an elder or someone u desire to show respect towards. even if it ur peer, u can say "tang-shin." it's a formal, more affectionate way of saying "you."

Didn't the stupid golfer dad sometimes call Heesoo dang-shin? I know they translated it as sweetheart.
I think that Eunsoo's a big fat jerk now that they've shown what happened when Younglan moved out. Oh and - in response to a question up in the thread somewhere - I think that Younglan moved out as well after she'd kicked the two of them out (that's what Eunsoo told his parents when he first moved in with them at the beginning of the series) so that's why she didn't just move out.
I thought that they made Younglan and Eunsoo look a lot younger than they presently do. It doesn't make sense though - sure I agree that they should've looked younger during college, but not when Eunsoo lost his job and definitely not when Younglan threw him out. It hasn't been *that* long that the series has been on (and since she threw him out).

Yeah, but I'm saying, why did she, in effect, throw her little boy out (throw the baby out with the Eun-soo water)? What kind of a mother does that? She's got the husband's suitcase packed and ready to go, so obviously Ji-woong got the same short notice if Young-lan expected him to live with his father. There was no need for anyone but Young-lan to move out, especially if she were to consider her son's feelings. It's not nice to cause your son to lose his mommy and home at one blow.

Toranaga and BAE, thanks for the information about "Dang-shin" or "Tang-shin" . Yeah, Eun-soo did make it seem like Young-lan was a real b-yotch back then. But he was the real b-yotch. Always drunk and complaining to Young-lan, "Choi Young-lan, save me from my mother" . At first when we met Eun-soo in the drama, I thought he was a nice, decent young man. But with Young-lan's flashbacks, I was wrong! Eun-soo was really immature, selfish, and annoying back then. Eun-soo one time said, "Man, how could I have ever put up with her or lived with her back then?" but now it should be Young-lan asking herself that question.

Maybe its just the way Young-lan remembers it. But Eun-soo is such a mama's boy, it sure seems likely it was that way.

i must admit it was kinda comical seeing eun-soo drunk like that ( i have a sick sense of humor) it woulda been great to see younglan put eun-soo out like she should have but she decided to leave herself.
i guess that shows who was making the money at the time because eun-soo had to go home after she left him.

Eun-Soo and Young-lan are truly a mis-matched couple. Maybe Young-lan saw potential in Eun-Soo because he studied abroad, thinking that he might become ambitious. However, he's living at home, afraid of upsetting his controlling mother, writing some novel. Young-lan realizes that she needs to be the bread-winner if they're going to survive on their own. It's obvious that Eun-Soo is going to be in some kind of "dream-land" as to a career, especially at his age. Maybe Young-lan would like to be at home to be Ji-Woong's mother, but she realizes that she'll have to support the family. She doesn't want to become dependent on Eun-Soo's parents for support.
It was very sad to see Young-lan and Ji-Woong parting. I think she sees Jung-Hee who can give her son unconditional love, but Jung-Hee may be starting to wonder if Eun-Soo is really committed to her. It makes Eun-Soo look like he's more willing to please his mother than to lead his own life.

Eun-soo never really answered Jung-hee when she asked him if he still had feelings for Young-lan at the cafe that day. I think she asked about 2x and all Eun-soo could do was drink his cup of coffee. Later, he just told Jung-hee to just trust him. Speaking of the cafe scene, did you see Jung-hee's eyes the way she glared at Eun-soo as he was drinking his coffee ?! I still remember Jung-hee telling Eun-soo's mom that if he ever had a change of heart and leave her, she would kill herself along with him.
