Okay, let me get this straight. The place is on fire. Through a locked window, you see your true love, separated from you by flames through which you will have to navigate to reach her. There are several pieces of furniture and a fire extinguisher next to you. What do you do? (A) Throw something heavy through the window, unlock it, take the fire extinguisher and use it to reach your love, avoiding unhappy circumstances like third-degree burns; or (B) Use the fire extinguisher as a window smasher, throwing it away, and then jump over boxes as indirectly as possible through the flames, setting your arm on fire on the way.
You choose.
Bo
PS - What foolish firemen they have in Korea. When they find two people in a smoky, fiery room, they fight the fire around them and make no rescue effort whatsoever; then, when the fire is out, they let the injured people make their way out of the damaged building on their own. Please...

My fiance and I were talking about the same exact thing when we watched the episode. First, when he tried to open the main door and recoiled b/c of the fire, he ignored the fire extinguisher right next to that door. Then when he wanted to open the window, he, of course, used the fire extinguisher. He could've even used the extinguisher to break the window and held onto it to help fight the fire!
Oh, and I love how he fought through the fire to save her and as soon as his sleeve caught on fire, he was immobilized. Come one, unless your clothing is made of super-melty fabric, it won't set your skin on fire for a minute or so, giving you time to disrobe! (They missed an opportunity there.)
Eric: Oh Ji-eun, how I love you, I would do anything for you, I must save you! Eek! Flames on my precious shirt! COWER IN FRIGHT AND OH GOD I'M DYING!
Ji-eun: I must cower over you as well, for we will never get out of here through the window that you entered, and what's this fire extinguisher doing here? Surely it's so I can bang my head on it and die in peace and not so that I may heroically save us both to live and break up another day!

LOL hachiue! I can't wait to see this ep. (I usually record the morning re-airings). But this just shows how smart Eric is. One more reason I dislike him.

Yeah, I love the firemen spraying water over the victims and them lying sprawled together on the floor staring mournfully at each other. Then, surely, Eric has to have at least 3rd degree burns on his arm, but they come out only slightly worn around the edges and heis shirt just slightly tattered. Jeez, where is a paramedic when you need it? I, of course am way too literal. First, I'm thinking, the Ji -eun has been sabotaged and left in the room. Then, after Eric's arm catches fire, I think we'll have some mournful near death experience and hospital scenes (guess I've been watching too much ER!) And then Will can't even have the presence of mind to totally rejoice that they are alive. Wow, just about says it all

HAHAHAHA! Hachiue, your internal monologues for the two characters are a masterpiece of sarcasm, and Bo, I'm sure I would find your analysis of the situation equally funny if I had bothered to watch it and not just fast-forward through it because I was so bored. All I know is, the room caught on fire and Eric clumsily got her out, defying all the laws of chemistry and physics according to which fires can actually be expected to burn up a room.

Yeah, that whole scene was terrible. I mean .. Ji Eun somehow doesn't notice that a fire started right by her, Eric has a fire extinguisher but he doesn't use it (well at least not how you're supposed to use it), the firefighters make no attempt to rescue Eric & Ji Eun and they're allowed to walk out of the building on their own.

See, this is one of the reasons I now really like this show. Because we can have these hilarious discussions and my boss can ask me "What are you laughing about all the time?"

I'm glad that we are united as Korean drama viewers across the nation about the silliness of this episode with the fire. The minute it ended in Hawaii people were posting on the KBFD board having a good laugh about it and brought up all the same points you guys did. Phoenix has many whaa? moments. ;D

Finally caught ep. 13 and at first I thought I wouldn’t laugh anymore since I had read about it in this thread, but I still cracked up at how just plain funny this whole scene was. The guy passed two fire extinguishers! And instead of Ji-eun using the fire extinguisher Eric threw in to break the window (did you guys notice how he still opened the latch to the window to move it to the side?) she was just there inhaling smoke like a dummy. And then to top it all off, even if you’re in a darned near comatose state, when you feel the fire in your arm, you aren’t just going to lie there manly wincing in pain, your going to roll to get the fire off of your arm!
How in the world does the fact that she was saved from the fire by Eric change everything that she’s already told him is wrong with their relationship. Bo was right when she described our The Phoenix reaction as “horrified fascination”.

...Bo was right when she described our The Phoenix reaction as “horrified fascination”. Was that me? I thought it was Melissa. In any case, it is apt, apt, apt! Where is Melissa, by the way? She's way ahead of all of us on this one. I wonder if she's hanging in there? Maybe she's sprained a gut with all the laughing. Bo

Was that me? I thought it was Melissa. In any case, it is apt, apt, apt! Bo I remember reading it in the forbidden "Admins only" when you went on vacation. Although I wouldn't be surprised if that's also the way she described it.
