Ken, were you the person at the first DJG gathering, who asked me when the musical show was on? If you want to see it, turn on Phoenix an hour early Fridays. Last week, my favorite singer was a 30ish woman with a lovely voice. The show features strange dancers (hah-hah strange) in the background that don't always add to the song. The performers seemed to span all age groups and styles, but the audience seemed mostly to consist of elderly women. When I've caught this show before, I wondered why they put the lyrics (in Korean) at the bottom of the screen, but I've realized it's like karaoke, so everyone can sing along. The audience certainly did, with every performer. It appears to be an hour long, each performer sings several songs, and it takes place in a very wide auditorium. The MC was a young woman with a pleasant voice and demeanor. I suppose we'll be seeing her on some daily drama very soon!

Hi TheBo! It wasn't me who asked you about the program. Joanie and I got there a little late and missed part of the first half of JG. Yet, I was wondering about the show you mentioned, so thanks for the info! I'm guessing it was Soju you might have been talking to - we talked for awhile at the 2nd gathering and he watches a pretty wide range of shows on 28. What I like best about that program and a few others we've come across like it is that Korean culture seems to encourage musical creativity as a part of everyday life, which it should be. A lot of the people look like accountants, bus drivers or secretaries, yet many of them can really sing and it's fun to watch! The JG gatherings were very enjoyable - I wish we could have gotten to the first one earlier. In the spirit of the musical shows, I'd like to share some of my music with my friends on the Board: kenmorris.iuma.comThanks again for the info, TheBo! I hope whoever actually asked you reads your answer.

I agree with both The Bo & Ken on posts above! I also like that so many people are given a chance "at the mike" on some of the amateur competitions. Most sing fairly well and they seldom seem nervous, either. One show seems to have the contestants sing the lyrics of a well-known song until they make a mistake. The erring contestant is buzzed and the mike is repeatedly handed to another person until someone completes the song correctly. Then a chime sounds. Good energy and laughter. Lots of Korean musical variety shows on Ch. 28.

Oh, hah, Ken, I see from your website that you are NOT the guy I was thinking of. (Who WAS that guy?) Thanks for the link to your website--what lovely guitar work, particularly on "For Josie" (my personal favorite). Good luck to you in your "obscure" endeavors.
