Shindon is name of Buddhist in the late Koryo dynasty.('Koryo' is origin of the name Korea)
In the late of the age of warriors, Genghis Khan and his empire invaded Koryo, after approximately 30 years of resistance, finally Koryo dynasty surrendered, and Koryo became a tributary.
After that, People of invader and puppets of them(from Koryo) held power, and they frantically expanded their lands and people so subjects fell into the bottomless pit.
Then Shindon and King Gongmin appears.
Shindon is son of Temple's slave. so he desperately wanted people's freedom of living and the end of mogol's plundering. His aspects were perverted as Chosun's establishment.
King Gongmin was taken as hostage when he was 13 years old. and came back to Koryo and became king, He, too desperately wanted independence of Koryo.
So "Shindon" starts..

Stop it, flashy boy. I just think you're being a bit disrespectful to someone who's not here to defend himself. Not that he'd care about your feeble joking...he was a Buddhist, after all.
Never mind.

Shindon's real name was Pyunjo, Shindon is name given by King Kongmin of Koryo (3rd last regime of Koryo dynasty).
Kongmin was taken hostage since age of 12 yrs old in capital city of Yuen Dynasty (Kublai regime of Mongol dynasty in China), then he met the runaway buddist monk named Pyunjo and given chance to see him then their freinship begun.
After returning to Korea as King, King grant Pyunjo as highest ranked leadership to sweep corrupted aristocrats (most aristocrats or landlords had good relationship with Mongol dynasty and paying tributes to Mongols). Even Koryo manages to drive Mongol domination out of Korea, Korea was still had many ex-Mongol lords and corrupted Government officials.
Thus, King Kongmin had plan to wipe them out using power of Shindon, believe to have power to control people mind, indeed he had very positive support from poor people who used called him living Buddah and in-fact many hight priest and monks didn't like as well as aristocrats.
In the end, he was killed by King Kongmin him self as King became corrupted and fear of Shindon's growing popularity and power. Shindon had power to remove King and its aristocrats but never really used or abused his power, which he should have done. That would have made Korea first republic nation.
