What are your most memorable death scenes from AOW and other warrior dramas (literature included).
For AOW, I guess my No. 1 is Ui Bang's demise, including the aftermath of the next episode, which was another of my favorites (Muby giving up on her ambitions and leaving the show). The one on one duel where Yi Ko was defeated and wounded by the Archfiend, then killed himself was pretty epic. In a different light, I also liked the KDS death scene although it certainly wasn't a martial one. The Archfiend's final moments were certainly worthy of him, as were those of his earlier right hand man General Park.
In other dramas or literature here are some other death scenes that I found memorable (in no particular order):
1. Death scene(s) for Nobunaga. JTV has done two drama series on Nobunaga, and he was prominently featured (of course) in drama series done on Maeda Toshiie and on Hideyoshi. In all versions Nobunaga is depicted as first pulling his mighty bow and felling a number of attackers (he was surrounded at a temple he was staying and he had few troops protecting him) before turning and walking back into the burning building and killing himself as the flames close in. My wife also ranks the Nobunaga death scenes as among the most dramatic she's film scenes she's ever seen (along with the Ui Bang scene which was one of the few AOW episodes she saw).
2. Execution of Fujiwara Tsunekiyo. This concluded the first part (of three) of the finest JTV drama series I've ever seen, the series on Hiraizumi (ran about 10 years ago?). Tsunekiyo is executed on orders of Minamoto Yoriyoshi by having his head cut off with a blunted sword against the pleading of his son, the great Minamoto Yoshiie, who wishes to let Tsunekiyo preserve his dignity and commit suicide the conventional way. A vassal of Tsunekiyo is forced to cut his master's head off.
3. (Literature) Death scene of Kongming in RTK. Not a fighting scene, but huge and dramatic nonetheless. Kongming gets the most dramatic send off in RTK, with Cao Cao running a close second.
4. (Literature) Death of Sima Zhao from infection of facial surgery. This is one of the most graphic depictions of sheer physical agony in literature, and certainly in RTK. You had to think twice before you had a mole removed in those days. Zhang Liao getting felled by an arrow "in the loins" is grim, but the description is not anywhere near as graphic as the infected mole surgery thing.
