when i first started watching age of warriors, it was exciting for me because there were so many interesting characters and i was concerned with what their fate would be. all the characters that i missed in the earlier episodes also sounded very colorful as well and these far exceeded the annoying characters on the show (like king big nose) now it seems that the annoying characters far outweigh the interesting ones and the interesting characters are either not as interesting or rehashes of previous characters. choi choong hon's character is getting more complex but he's still not sympetic enough to carry the entire show. jin jae is just KDS part 2, and the new emperor is myong jong 2 with smaller nose. the crown prince's acting style is terrible and i feel like backhanding him every time he talks. when i think about all the fun characters there were before the death of the archfiend: yi ui bang yi ko che won yi ui min minister yi muby orang general du muby choi bu jasun brue kyung dae seung lt. kim dobang soran minister moon the empress dowager chung kyun madame yim huh seung now who's left choe choong hon (passable but not a great character) jin jae (rip off) choong su (archfiend wanna be esp. after epi 137) makes me sad

( merciful buddah)

i agree with you, VIB. but i don't see how Chung-su is anything like the archfiend. before the imperial dragon thingy, ui min had nothing more than loyalty to yi ui bang. he would kill himself if ui bang asked him to do so. and even with the impoerial drragon thing, he had feelings for other people. his wives, brue, and his loyal followers. chung-su doesn't have feelings.
and CK, we will watch whatever we want. i didn't enjoy the show ever since choi came into power, and yes, i complain about it, but i will still watch it, though i have to force myself to sit through it. and not all american shows are bad. "24" is a good show.

imperial dragon
'sup baby?
no, choong su is not very like the archfiend: what i meant was that he is trying to be the archfiend replacement as a badass and his death had a lot of similarities to the archfiend's death is what i meant.
and i didn't say the show sucked - i just don't think it is very interesting

I found it hard to adjust to the current set of parameters on the show, since it all centers fom the inside out. The Imperial Court environment seems stifling, since even power struggles are subject to a range of manners. I'm finding it more enjoyable because I want the characters to have it out, and I don't worry about them. I see it as a different show in many ways, but I let go of the comparisons, and it works.

I agree also. Personally, I think there's not enough interesting main characters anymore. In the first 60 or so episodes we had:
Yi Ui Bang-- had charisma and a leader yi ko- -didn't take no bull and was pure action che won-- clumsy but had a big heart yi ui min-- had great loyalty, charisma, and could kill anyone in a instant muby-- great planner and manipulative oran-- great loyalty and a strong female warrior general du-- Tremendous loyalty and established the image of how a warrior should be the empress dowager-- had a mouth on her even though she was old as hell Myong Jong-- the weakling Ui Jong-- the broken down former emperor
After Yi Ui Bang died these characters came about:
Chung Bu-- Tremendous planner and knew how to get what he wanted it chung kyun--a great villian everyone despised. madame yim-- had great loyalty to the empress dowager and managed to calm chung kyun huh seung-- Great fighting skills, loyalty, and always on point(did he ever smiled?) soran--Mother figure of dobang and a good fighting skills kyung dae seung-- Caring, Leadership abilities lt. kim-- great loyalty, protective dobang-- great loyalty
When KDS died, they came along:
General Cho--A comedic villian choi bu-- Great loyalty and superb fighting skills jasun--loyalty brue--loyalty, had a big heart, good fighting skills Bu-young-- Great loyalty, Maintain the Archfiend, Mother figure Aran-- young woman who wants the world but have no experience on obtaining it Archfiend sons-- the brats
When the Archfiend died, we got these:
Choi choong hon-- complexed, leadership abilities, strategist choi choong su--?? Jin jae--?? Myong jong brother-- Weakling the crown prince-- have some ambition, not afraid to say what's on his mind, think he can control his surroundings The girl that works for choi choong hun-- see muby manjok--?
I don't even know what to give Choi Choong Su becasue, IMO, his character wasn't completed. He was hot-tempered, but that's it that stands out for his character. During all his battle with his brother, I was mostly interested in choi choong hon then him.
Jin Jae is like VIB stated. He don't have leadership abilities, but his love of the true cause his what positioned him as KDS #2
Manjok and Choi choong hon are the only interesting think for me right now.

I still am glued to the show but I think the dramatization of the Choi era has not met the standards established earlier in the program.
I think the actors are still quite good but their characters are not being allowed to "breathe" as they would have earlier in the series. I would suspect that time constraints are a factor as the end of production approaches.
The story is inherently repetitive because of the train of uprisings and retributive killings but if the screenwriters and director would allow the actors to create characters that we empathize with (or hate intensely!) then our interest in the show would remain at a high level.
My wife has observed that many Korean dramas that she watches seem to run out of steam after a period of intensity. In old Hollywood screenwriters such as Ben Hecht made a living being "script doctors" who would punch up a plot line (often without credit) in cases where a producer thought his principle writers had gone flat.

I think the actors are still quite good but their characters are not being allowed to "breathe" as they would have earlier in the series. I definitely agree with this statement, generaldu, especially about the characters not being able to breathe, as you say. The Choe brother rivalry seemed rushed along. Although I liked watching the action that came, I missed the sitting around, plotting (and the plodding) and declarations by the warriors that come with set up episodes. I thought there would be more scenes of CCS and his men scheming on how to carry out and achieve their plan. Instead it smally began (and soon ended) in a scene with his men grumbling while CCS looked perfectly content. A few words from them to incite him against his brother and then, all of a sudden, he is unsatisfied with his post, fully outraged, and ready to rebel. Boom, just like that! I found it a little implausible the way his men coached him and also talked back to him. I would have liked a few more scenes with his men whispering incitements into his ear - so as to enrich the reasons why the later action happened as it did. And I agree with what skinz had said earlier too, about CCS's character being underdeveloped. However, I did like watching the rivalry episodes. I just wish they had been expanded upon. And I absolutely still love Age of Warriors. Oh yeah, and I though CCH was the best part of those episodes, agree with skinz.

When CCH first appeared, I thought it wouldn't be long before we saw him take over and the last third of AOW would concentrate on him. I think the producers waited too long to bring him to power, and now as you and generaldu have said everything seems to be hurrying along. So in the last twenty-odd episodes they have to squeeze in the brothers' rivalry, booting two emperors, and reforming the government. A daunting task!
