thats right. how about men having to stay fit so they can be liked better by women, it all goes the same. ( plus working out is great, atleast you're doing something good for yourself.) so i don't find anything offendsive and i think imperial dragon thread about sexiest woman was good to talk about something else thats not all about drama's and just have fun posting pics about why you think they are sexy. so i don't find this as a put down to women. the topic is mostly for men anyways. i hope this board doesn't become worse then the fcc. as even women with clothe are offendsive here to some.

Oh no we're getting serious in the tangent board! OK since MC brought it up, here's my opinion on it too. On the one hand, I don't think any of the pictures that were deemed inappropriate were that bad, and I'm not saying that because I posted one of them! But on the other hand, I understand Mr. Paulus' position that he wants to maybe stop things before it gets out of control. And believe me I have seen message boards that got WAY out of control and they were banned by the main hosting site (ezboard) because of it. On one board it got to the point where no image linking is allowed anymore and there is a screening process even after you register with the main hosting site. That's why even though I had more pics of the actress playing Aran I decided not to post them because I believe it could have been grounds for complaints that there is questionable content on this site. Plus it seemed to make VIB very ill. ;D But anyway... Judging by the people that post here I don't think this board will ever get out of hand, but you never know so I guess the moderators would rather err on the side of caution. I do think shutting down a thread entirely was a bit rash though. Mace, i think you got what my line of reasoning very well. It was indeed preventative, rather than what was currently in the thread. i definitely do not want us to go the way of the other boards you mentioned, and instead enjoy the diversity of stuff we have now (such as the AOW Caption threads). THANKS!

I have found it odd that I, a generally peaceful person, can accept the violence that is essentially part and parcel of much of human history, as it is presented in AOW. I wonder, however, what it says about us that images of violent death and torture can be seen as acceptable presentations while images of the human body, bikini clad or otherwise, which are not intended as degradations form the line we draw on visual expression. A couple of things: Most violence on film is faked; sexual images most often are the real thing. And for Americans (and many other cultures, such as Asian and many African & Muslim countries), viewing sexual/nude images are not helpful for them. Also, you would also be commenting on the dramas themselves (rather than a few "prude" Americans). How much have they ever shown on Age of Warriors? Emperor Wang Guhn? Chang Nok Soo (which was about a kisaeng!)? A significant part of Korean culture (inlcuding the filmmakers) would see no contradiction between their showing of violence and lack of skin on film. Lastly, i'd also likek to compare it with the recent issue with the banners by Velvet Ink brush. (Please forgive the tone...but i'm trying to view the issue in a different light) Some people had problems with VIB's banners, which were big artistic renditions of various historical drama characters. The first one was fine, but then it seemed like it was getting out of control. The problem wasn't due to content -- they were totally on-topic, definitely not obscene. it was because someone else had a problem. And their problem is that they weren't willing to be progressive and get with the times. (It's dial-up vs. DSL/Cable). Why should Velvet Ink Brush have to change because of someone else? Shouldn't those "complainers" just get with it, and if they don't like it, tough, right? i still like VIB's art, and if VIB has a virtual gallery, i encourage you to check it out. But i also appreciate VIB's willingness to accomodate others, and still use her freedom of speech in an alternate way.

Howdy JP I understand that culture and tradition can hamstring enjoyment of art. To be fair, many artists are antisocial and self centered. By the same measure, many prominent people share those traits, and are not measured by the same rule. It is somehow assumed, in some traditions, that the exhibition of a human body can of itself be harmful in its natural form. I accept that that is the way things are. I only meant to reflect on our priorities. I am in favor of a healthy attitude toward women and men in their presentation, but I question as to whether there is a "good old days" to go back to in this regard.

I agree with you that VIB's art is great. I also appreciate her willingness to make the banners smaller. Some forums don't allow banners larger than 300x80. I think 400x100 is fairly reasonable. When there's an issue that comes up, it's part of our responsibility as staff members to try to come up with a solution. We can't solve every problem but we can at least try. Another part of our responsibility is trying to keep the forum 56k friendly. I've said this several times .. we just want everyone to have a pleasant experience when they come here. I hope everyone understands where I'm coming from.

Mace, i think you got what my line of reasoning very well. It was indeed preventative, rather than what was currently in the thread. Just to follow up on what you said... I mentioned this in an earlier post but the 'sexiest woman on tv' thread was NOT closed because of the content in the topic. I also said that you guys were more than welcome to start a new thread. I'll gladly post some pics again but no one has taken me up on the offer yet.
