a lot of deleting to do?
i still didn't find out your warrior's real name. although if you're anything like me, the daeha drama heros are a lot less apealing in real life than with their snazzy uniforms and long hair.

as the soldiers marched the long journey to the land of the mongols, im ho gwon couldn't help but be pleased with the way things were working out. the division in the court, the murder of general du, and soon the choes would be dead. after that, the only thing that truly stood in his way was the archfiend and perhaps his general. he laughed at the foolishness of choi bu, losing his heart to a woman. the murder of du kyung su was probably the first time that it dawned on him how paralyzing it was to love someone. thus he remained in the imperial city, playing a personal babysitter.
as he drew nearer and nearer to his destination, he couldn't help but feel that he was home. soon he would see the wild horses, the felt tents. ho gwon thought about the Temuchin and how pleased he would be with the addition of the people of the shilla penninsula - another jewel in his growing crown. though born of koryo, im ho gwon admired his leader far more than the squabbling so called "warriors" of koryo - and their upbringings had been so similar, filled with tragedy and wondrous rebirth.
he couldn't wait to deliver the news in person...

high among the steppes, the choes were still enduring their spartan existance, waiting for their contact in shilla to inform them of the opportune moment to strike. little did they know, ho gwon had led his soldiers within a short distance of their encampment and that they were being watched.
pak jin jae was wondering why ja oonsun or im ho gwon had not contacted them in so long. it was too dangerous to enter the imperial city so all they could do was wait for news. suddenly,
"ATTAAAAAAAAAACK!!!"

Jin jae grabbed his sword and began scanning the steppes for the source of the sound. what he saw horrified him - a group of about two hundred men were running with alarming speed to their location.
Woo and hyang ran up to their cousin. "hyung nim!" woo shouted, looking to his cousin for direction, "what do we do?"
drawing his sword, jin jae said through gritted teeth, we will not have time to run far. ready whoever you can with bows and we'll try to take down as many of them as we can before we engage them." woo bowed and ran to convey the order.
though the choe clan could boast a few skilled archers in their group, they rapidly ran out of arrows and by then the soldiers under commander Im had poured into their camp. Raising his sword, jin jae shouted to his kin, "10000 years for the wobong choe!" and ran to meet the soldiers head on. Inspired by his bravery, woo and hyang brandished their swords and followed him into the battle.

though their intent was brave, the small clan of fugitives were no match for the new and improved imperial army soldiers. combining their newfound martial arts with their traditional subak knowledge, they tore through the surviving members of the choe family. ho gwon had issued specific instructions that pak jin jae was to be kept alive. as for the other dead family members, he ordered their heads cut off and bagged for the journey back the imperial city.

when pak jin jae was brought bound before commander im, more dead than alive, he was still of sound enough mind that he recognized the man that his cousins had brought as a new recruit.
"you!" he said in an acid tone.
"yes" im ho gwon nodded. "we meet again, pak jin jae of the wobong choe."
"you fooled my cousins into thinking you were sympathetic to our cause and then you betray us? after sharing our hardships with us?" he spit in the commander's direction.
"that's right" ho gwon said in a loud voice so that the troops could hear. "you see, the archfiend is a strong and noble ruler. it is his favor i wished to gain, not yours. and when i bring back the heads of you treasonous family to him, i will have it." jerking his head, he ordered his men to take pak jin jae out of his sight.

having accomplished what they had set out to do, the company of soldiers turned back in the direction of the imperial city. his hands thoroughly bound and a rope around his neck, they dragged him like an animal for the rest of the journey. if he fainted from exhaustion or pain, the beat him until he regained consciousness. as they reached the imperial city, pak jin jae was looking forward to joining his kinsmen in the next life.

before im ho gwon presented the emperor with his grisly ttophies, he decided to make one more stop before setting foot in the emperor's audience chamber. stopping by ja oon sun's residence, he informed her that he urgently needed to speak to her.
he took her to a place some distance away in a secluded area. when he was certain that they were alone, pulled a leather bag off his saddle and opened it.
"what is it?" she asked.
he held it closer to her. "look inside" he told her.
peering into the bag, she let out a scream at the sight of her dead master's two sons - or what was left of them. it had been such a long journey, their heads had gone green with an unholy stench. closing the pouch nonchalantly, he hung it back on his saddle and drew his sword. "now then, if you value your life, you will listen and listen well." he was pleased to see abject terror in ja oon sun's eyes. he was probably the first. "if you'd like to keep that pretty head on that delicate neck, you will not breathe a word of what you know. because now even if you were to try to admit my part in this, the emperor would not believe you and you would have walked into your death. is that clear?"
she nodded, her face ashen.
"good" he said, sheathing his sword. Mounting his horse, he instructed her, "be a good girl and mind the archfiend's brat for me, eh?" before jerking the reins and riding away.
